Burgau Summer of Culture

Four evenings, four styles

The Burgau Summer of Culture is the central open-air series in the town of Burgau in the Günzburg district. Four summer evenings, four consistently different musical styles: Bavarian-anarchic musical cabaret, regional newcomers, classic rock evening, and a Mediterranean Italian night — programmatically a deliberately broad spectrum intended to appeal to the entire Middle Swabian audience.

Castle courtyard as a stage

The venue is the Burgau Castle courtyard, an enclosed inner courtyard with excellent acoustics directly at the castle of the former Margraviate of Burgau. The events take place open-air — in case of bad weather, they are moved to Burgau's Kapuzinerhalle. Seating is in concert style; the audience traditionally brings its own picnic for the Bavarian evening.

Program 2026 — 11th Edition

The eleventh edition in 2026 is spread over four consecutive evenings from Wednesday to Saturday (June 10th to 13th). The Bavarian evening with the cabaret troupe D'BavaResi opens the series, followed by a newcomer evening with Therese Eggstein and Fynn Wilmer titled »Next Wave«. On Friday, the Rockheroes cover AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pink Floyd, and Journey; Saturday becomes an Italian night with the Eros Ramazzotti tribute Dove c'è musica and the band Il LuMe.

Burgau and its Castle

The town of Burgau is located on the A8 motorway between Augsburg and Ulm. The castle dates back to the 13th century and was the seat of the Habsburg Margraves of Burgau. Today, it houses the city archive, registry office, and local history museum — and in summer, the castle courtyard serves as an open-air stage. The town markets the series as a cultural highlight of the Burgau summer; the combined ticket for all four evenings is particularly popular among regular guests.
