LWSF Hopsten — Where Agriculture and Folk Festival Merge
The Landwirtschaftliches Sommerfest Hopsten (LWSF for short) is a blend of trade fair and folk festival (Volksfest) and is one of the largest agricultural events in North Rhine-Westphalia. From July 24th to 26th, 2026, the grounds at Napoleondamm between Hopsten and the Schale district will open their gates. For three days, everything will revolve around state-of-the-art agricultural technology, sustainable cultivation methods, expert lectures, and convivial gatherings in the Tecklenburger Land.
Hopsten in the Steinfurt District — A Location with Tradition
Hopsten is located in the far north of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Steinfurt district, on the border with Lower Saxony. The Münsterland and Tecklenburger Land are classic agricultural regions — characterized by family farms, dairy farming, and crop cultivation. Here, agriculture is not an abstract topic, but daily life. The LWSF leverages this background to bring together farmers from all over western Germany for a mix of exhibition, networking, and festival.
2026 Program — Three Days of Agricultural Innovation
What to Expect
- Machinery Show with the latest tractors, combine harvesters, and specialized equipment
- Sustainable Cultivation Methods — organic farming, direct drilling, precision agriculture
- Expert Talks on current topics: climate adaptation, animal welfare, funding policies
- Technical Discussions with manufacturers and consultants
- Catering with regional specialties
- Family Program with activities for children
Opening Hours
- Friday, July 24th: 2:00 PM–11:00 PM
- Saturday, July 25th: 10:00 AM–11:00 PM
- Sunday, July 26th: 10:00 AM–10:00 PM
Camping from Thursday
Those seeking the full LWSF experience can stay overnight on the camping grounds from Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 (entry 6:00 PM–8:00 PM). Pitch fee: €5 per pitch per night. This saves you the commute on the festival morning and allows you to immerse yourself deeper into the atmosphere.
What Makes the LWSF Different
Unlike pure trade fairs like Agritechnica (Hanover), the LWSF has a distinct folk festival character — bratwurst, beer, music, and families are part of it. Unlike pure village festivals, it has a serious professional focus with lectures and machine demonstrations. This combination attracts both professional farmers and interested laypeople who want to see agricultural technology live.
Getting There and Parking
Address: Napoleondamm, 48496 Hopsten/Schale. By car via the A30 (Rheine–Osnabrück), exit Hopsten. Free parking directly at the festival grounds — a real advantage over large commercial trade fairs. Hopsten is difficult to reach by public transport — car is recommended.
