Premiere of the wine festival in Lippisches Lage — four days of wine, live music, and Lipperland atmosphere
Lage is located in the Lippe district in East Westphalia, with around 35,000 inhabitants, between Detmold (east) and Bielefeld (west). The town has a distinct industrial history — Lage was a metal processing site for centuries, the Ziegelei Lage (brickyard) is now an industrial monument and museum, and the former Lage train station was a historic hub for the Lippe Railway. The city center around Lange Straße has a classic small-town character with remnants of half-timbered houses, modern retail, and a peaceful quality of life.
For years, Stadtmarketing Lage (Lage City Marketing) has pursued a systematic strategy to strengthen the city center as an experience space: Dinner in White (the white summer evening banquet), spring and autumn markets, and the Advent magic in December. The 2026 Wine Festival is a premiere — an expansion of the event portfolio with a summer festival with a clear culinary identity. The idea: a format that makes the city center a meeting place in the summer, beyond classic city festivals and Volksfeste (traditional folk festivals).
Official opening at 5:30 PM on the Marktplatz Lange Straße 70 — the mayor of Lage will raise a glass, and the tapping of the keg will mark the start. Afterwards, first wine tasting opportunities, live music to round off the summer evening.
The main visitor days with full operation of the wine stands, culinary offerings, live acts on stage — folk, cover bands, pop, and wine-typical repertoire. Lange Straße between house numbers 60 and 80 will become a promenade.
Sunday concludes the festival with a quieter jazz/acoustic program, Frühshoppen (morning pint), a cozy family lunch, and closing in the late afternoon.
The organizers invite winemakers from German wine regions — a curated selection that combines Lippian wine culture (there is hardly any wine directly in Lippe; the region is classically a beer and wedding destination) with top German wines. Expected: Riesling, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) from Pfalz, Rheingau, Mosel, Baden, and Württemberg. Registration for winemakers is via [email protected].
The organizers explicitly focus on an authentic wine festival atmosphere — no large stage, no marquee in the Volksfest style, but standing tables, wooden benches, and subtle lighting that highlights the wine tasting experience. The inspiration: South German wine festivals in smaller towns (Bad Dürkheim, Edenkoben), which have perfected the "summer wine city center" format.
Those who want to spend the premiere weekend with the wine festival should discover the Lipperland: Schloss Detmold with its park (8 km), Externsteine near Horn-Bad Meinberg, Hermannsdenkmal near Detmold, Schloss Brake with the Weser Renaissance Museum (in Lemgo), the Ziegelei-Museum in Lage itself (hands-on industrial history). For longer stays: the Wittgensteiner Bergland in the south, the Weser region in the north, Paderborn in the west — one of the densest historical and natural landscapes in East Westphalia.
Premiere — first edition in Lage. Organizers: Stadtmarketing Lage, integrated into the strategy of revitalizing the city center. Winemaker registrations via [email protected].
