The Lagenser Weihnachtsmarkt transforms the market square of the Lippian town of Lage into a romantic Advent meeting place under the "Lagenser Sternenzelt" every year. From November 27 to December 23, 2026, wooden huts will open with mulled wine, bratwurst, crêpes, arts and crafts, and Christmas decorations. Organized by Stadtmarketing Lage e.V., the 2026 edition offers an expanded children's program with a carousel, storytelling sessions, and craft activities. Getting There

By car: A2 exit Bielefeld, then B66 towards Detmold until Lage. Parking garages at the market square and the train station. By train: Lage (Lippe) station on the Bielefeld – Hameln line, from there a 8-minute walk to the market square.

Opening Hours 2026

November 27 to December 23, 2026. Weekdays usually 11 AM–8 PM, weekends until 10 PM (exact times shortly beforehand on lage-marketing.de). Sunday shopping December 20, 1 PM–6 PM.

Admission

Free. Food and drinks are paid for directly at the stalls. Deposit cups are common.

Tip

To experience the "Lagenser Sternenzelt" in all its glory, come in the late afternoon – when the lights are switched on and the square transitions from dusk into the Advent night. Weekdays are much more relaxed than weekends.

A Market Square Under a Tent of Lights

The Lagenser Weihnachtsmarkt is the Advent highlight of the small Lippian town of Lage. The central market square at Lange Straße 70 is spanned by the famous "Lagenser Sternenzelt" in the weeks before Christmas – a large-scale light installation over the entire square, giving the Advent atmosphere a distinctive character. The market is organized by Stadtmarketing Lage e.V., which has been working to revitalize the town center for years.

This year's edition runs for almost four weeks – from Friday, November 27, 2026, to Wednesday, December 23, 2026. This makes Lage one of the few Lippian Christmas markets lasting almost four weeks (many smaller ones only run for one or two weekends).

Expanded Children's Program 2026

New for 2026 is an expanded children's program, which the town marketing has restructured based on suggestions from the previous year. It includes:

Sunday Shopping on December 20

The highlight is the Sunday shopping event on December 20, 2026, from 1 PM to 6 PM. On this day, Lage's shops will be open additionally – ideal for last-minute gift shopping, combined with a mulled wine stroll around the market square.

Lage – "Detmold's Little Sister"

Lage is located in the district of Lippe, about 8 kilometers west of Detmold. With around 35,000 inhabitants, the town is manageable but has a lively town center and is considered the "little sister" of Detmold. Lage is known for its Brick Museum (one of the few of its kind in Germany) and its central location between Bielefeld, Detmold, and Herford.
