A Market Square Under a Tent of Lights

The Lagenser Weihnachtsmarkt is the Advent highlight of the small Lippian town of Lage. The central market square at Lange Straße 70 is spanned by the famous "Lagenser Sternenzelt" in the weeks before Christmas – a large-scale light installation over the entire square, giving the Advent atmosphere a distinctive character. The market is organized by Stadtmarketing Lage e.V., which has been working to revitalize the town center for years.

Date 2026: November 27 – December 23

This year's edition runs for almost four weeks – from Friday, November 27, 2026, to Wednesday, December 23, 2026. This makes Lage one of the few Lippian Christmas markets lasting almost four weeks (many smaller ones only run for one or two weekends).

Expanded Children's Program 2026

New for 2026 is an expanded children's program, which the town marketing has restructured based on suggestions from the previous year. It includes:

• Nostalgia carousel for the little ones
• Storytelling sessions in the town library (weekends)
• Craft activities for families
• Visit from St. Nicholas on December 6 with gifts
• Advent calendar promotion in Lage's shops (tickets and prizes)

Sunday Shopping on December 20

The highlight is the Sunday shopping event on December 20, 2026, from 1 PM to 6 PM. On this day, Lage's shops will be open additionally – ideal for last-minute gift shopping, combined with a mulled wine stroll around the market square.

Culinary Offerings

As is typical for Lippian Christmas markets, solid home-style cooking dominates:

• Mulled wine (red and white), children's punch, hot chocolate
• Bratwurst, currywurst, potato pancakes with apple sauce
• Crêpes, candied almonds, chocolate-covered fruit
• Mushrooms in garlic sauce
• Cheese and sausage specialties from the Lipperland region

Arts and Crafts and Gift Ideas

Several stalls offer arts and crafts from the region: handmade jewelry, wood carvings, glasswork, textile and felt products, natural cosmetics. Those who take their time will find small gifts here, away from the usual mass-produced goods.

Lage – "Detmold's Little Sister"

Lage is located in the district of Lippe, about 8 kilometers west of Detmold. With around 35,000 inhabitants, the town is manageable but has a lively town center and is considered the "little sister" of Detmold. Lage is known for its Brick Museum (one of the few of its kind in Germany) and its central location between Bielefeld, Detmold, and Herford.
