Longest touring ski race in the Bavarian Forest
The ArberBlitz is the longest touring ski race in the Bavarian Forest — and one of Bavaria's most unusual winter sports events. From the summit plateau of the Großer Arber (1,450 m), the course leads over eight kilometers down to Bodenmais to the Silberbergbad (672 m), with a total altitude loss of 784 meters and a small uphill section of 22 meters.
A special feature of the race: alpine skis, touring skis, telemark skis, cross-country skis, snowboards, and vintage skis are permitted. This unusual openness makes the ArberBlitz a colorful event with participants of all generations, competing with the most diverse equipment — from modern alpine athletes and traditional telemark skiers to hobby skiers with their grandparents' wooden skis.
There is an open amateur competition with individual runs and a team competition. Teams consist of three to five participants; the combined times of the three fastest are used for scoring. The course leads over the »Glanderstrassl« and includes approximately 1,200 meters of sections where skis must be carried — an additional sporting challenge.
After the race, the winter party takes place in the Bodenmais valley — a central part of the event. Several restaurants and festival tents in the town center become venues for exuberant celebration with live bands and DJ sets. The double package of race + party makes the ArberBlitz a complete winter sports festival weekend.
The organizer is the Skiclub Bodenmais (SC Bodenmais), which has been promoting winter sports in the region for decades. With the 2026 date on February 7th, the ArberBlitz is the central winter sports highlight of the season in the Bavarian Forest, running parallel to other winter sports classics in the Alps.
The 2026 ArberBlitz starts on Saturday, February 7th, from the summit plateau of the Großer Arber. The course leads over the »Glanderstrassl« with a small uphill section of 22 meters down to Bodenmais to the Silberbergbad. A total of 8 kilometers, including approximately 1,200 meters of sections where skis must be carried. The competition includes individual runs and team classifications (teams of 3 to 5 members, the three fastest times are scored).
Alpine skis, touring skis, telemark skis, cross-country skis, snowboards, and vintage skis are permitted — a diversity of equipment that particularly characterizes the race. The organizers report excellent snow conditions for 2026, allowing for the full course to be skied.
Afterwards, the event moves to the winter party in Bodenmais: restaurants, festival tents, and open-air stages in the town center transform into venues for exuberant winter sports atmosphere with live music and DJs.
