Concerts, Jazz, Klezmer and Poetry Slam in the new Kulturscheune
The Kulturscheune Höchberg is the new cultural address for western Würzburg: a renovated barn converted into an intimate concert and event stage. The market town of Höchberg, a community of 9,000 inhabitants on the western outskirts of Würzburg, has thus created a cultural center that radiates far beyond local needs. The Kultursommer 2026 marks the seasonal program series at the beginning of July — a concentrated, curated cultural series to kick off the second half of the season.
From Friday, July 3rd, to Saturday, July 11th, there is a program with five events, each opening its own musical universe. Christiane Dehmer kicks things off on July 3rd — a concert in the Kulturscheune. On Saturday, July 4th, the Poetry Slam evening follows — spoken word art with a competitive element, a format now established in Germany. Sunday, July 5th, is dedicated to Oldtime Jazz and Good Ol' Swing: an early afternoon concert at 4:00 PM, a relaxed Sunday matinee.
The second block of programming on the following weekend is dedicated to the Eastern European-Mediterranean world of music. On Friday, July 10th, Retrophonix plays — gypsy, klezmer, and Latin combined in one program. On Saturday, July 11th, the Duo Adafina follows with a klezmer-tango-world music journey. These program points underscore the profile of the Kulturscheune: sophisticated, curated, often off the mainstream, but not elitist.
Höchberg is located in the Würzburg district immediately west of the university city — easily accessible by train and tram (line 1). The market town has strengthened its cultural identity in recent decades: with the community center, club life, and the now renovated Kulturscheune, it is developing into a cultural address for western Würzburg, without being overwhelmed by Würzburg's city life.
The Kultursommer 2026 opens the program series of the new Würzburg cultural center. With five events in just eight days, the Kulturscheune sets a clear program focus: musical diversity between concerts, spoken word art, jazz, klezmer, and tango.
