Traditional Schützenfest in Münchehagen on Rott Heide on the last weekend of June
Münchehagen is a district of the town of Rehburg-Loccum in the southern Nienburg/Weser district. Münchehagen is known far beyond the region for its dinosaur footprints — the best-preserved dinosaur tracks in Germany are presented in the Münchehagen Dinosaur Park and attract thousands of visitors annually. This fame shapes the identity of the small village.
The Münchehagen Shooting Club is one of the established clubs in the district and organizes the traditional Schützenfest every summer. The club preserves shooting traditions and village sociability.
The venue is the Rott Heide — a festival meadow on the outskirts of Münchehagen with a shooting range, festival tent, and catering. The natural surroundings and the open location in the Münchehagen landscape give the festival a particularly idyllic atmosphere.
Unlike the multi-day major Schützenfeste, the Münchehagen festival is designed as a Sunday day event. It begins at 8:30 AM with the early assembly of the marksmen and the King's Shoot, followed by lunch with the King's Dinner and a parade, and then the program continues until 3:00 PM with a concluding dance evening.
Despite Münchehagen's supra-regional fame due to the Dinosaur Park, the Schützenfest is a central anchor of identity for the village community. It conveys tradition, unites generations, and gives visible expression to rural club culture. Friendly shooting clubs from the town of Rehburg-Loccum and the region participate in the parade.
The shooting club will publish the daily program for 2026 in advance via the town of Rehburg-Loccum and nienburg-online.de.
