Pentecost cultural festival in 21 private gardens, courtyards, and rooms of the Wedemark district of Brelingen
In the Wedemark district of Brelingen, nestled in the gentle expanses of the northern Hanover region, a cultural format has been established for years that sets standards in its conception. Every two years at Pentecost, the entire village transforms into a sprawling venue: private gardens become concert stages, stables become galleries, the village church becomes a concert hall, and the football pitch becomes a workshop space. Program items are spread across more than 21 venues, and the audience wanders through the entire village between them — from table to table, as the motto of the 2026 edition expresses.
Kultur im Dorf is supported by the Brelinger Kulturverein e.V., an initiative of citizens who see their hometown as a place of cultural encounter. The idea is simple and radical at the same time: those who have space open it. Those who can do something, show it. Those who want to see, come along. This creates a program that does not originate from a central curatorial hand but from the village itself — from amateur musicians as well as professional artists, from yoga teachers, dance schools, pétanque players, children's book authors, painters, and craftspeople.
The festival thrives on its programmatic diversity. Live concerts are at the center: jazz in the rectory garden, folk in the barn, classical music in the church, indie on the courtyard stage. In addition, art exhibitions shape the atmosphere — paintings, sculptures, photography, and installation works are presented in living rooms, barns, and meadows. Workshops invite participation: line dancing in the street, yoga in the garden, creative writing workshops, children's concerts with sing-along elements. A pétanque tournament provides sporting accompaniment, and culinary stands liven up the paths between venues.
All program items are generally free, supported by sponsorships, donations, and the commitment of countless helpers. This very volunteer basis is what gives the festival its special charm: Kultur im Dorf does not feel like a professionally marketed major event, but rather like an open neighborhood festival where art and encounters stand equally side by side. For visitors from Hanover or Wedemark, the festival offers the opportunity to get to know a village from the inside — with glimpses into gardens that remain closed otherwise, and encounters with artists on an equal footing.
On Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Brelinger Kulturverein invites you to the next edition of Kultur im Dorf. The motto 'from table to table' reflects the decentralized nature of the festival and invites the audience on a cultural stroll from place to place, from program item to program item.
Concerts, exhibitions, and workshops are spread across more than 21 venues. The exact program for 2026 will be published shortly before Pentecost in a festival booklet. Free admission, donations welcome.
The complete program will be published by the Brelinger Kulturverein in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
The final lineup with venues, times, and a village map will be published on brelinger-mitte.de.
Brelingen is a district of the municipality of Wedemark in the north of the Hanover region. By public transport: S-Bahn line S4 to Mellendorf, then approx. 3 km by bus, bicycle, or on foot to Brelingen. By car via the A7 (Mellendorf exit) and the B3.
Limited parking is available in the village center. The organizer recommends arriving by public transport or bicycle and designates parking areas on the outskirts of the village during the festival.
Admission to all program items is free. Donations for the artists and the Brelinger Kulturverein are welcome.
The complete program with venues, times, and a village map will be published in advance on the Brelinger Kulturverein website and distributed locally as a festival booklet. Due to the decentralized structure, advance planning is recommended — many venues are small, arriving early ensures a spot.
Most outdoor venues are accessible at ground level. Some historic buildings may have thresholds. Information on this can be found in the festival booklet.
