Advent Atmosphere in the Hochwald

Weiskirchen is located on the first elevation of the Hochwald in the district of Merzig-Wadern, is a state-recognized climatic health resort, and belongs to the Saarschleifenland tourism region. In winter, when the first snowflakes fall on the half-timbered houses, the town shows its coziest side – and the Christmas market on the second Advent weekend is its secret highlight.

Kirchplatz and Haus des Gastes as the Festival Setting

The market extends over two central locations: the Kirchplatz with the classic market stalls and festively decorated outdoor areas, as well as the neighboring Haus des Gastes, where a cozy indoor handicraft market is set up. A welcome retreat in bad weather, an extended strolling mile in good weather.

Program 2026 — Proven Format

Highlights include two performances by the Weiskirchen Music Association: on Saturday evening around 6:30 PM, the brass ensemble will play on the Kirchplatz, and on Sunday evening from 6 PM, the tower musicians of the band will play festive melodies across the square – a harmonious finale to the market weekend. For the little ones, St. Nicholas will arrive with gifts on Sunday at 4 PM. A special tradition is the "Christmas Truck" from the Wadern-Weiskirchen business association, which provides atmospheric effects around 5 PM.

Saarland Advent Culinary Delights

At the stalls, you'll find classic Saarland Christmas cuisine: hearty Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Bratwurst, cheese from the Saargau farmer, fresh waffles, and sweet cookies. Accompanied by mulled wine from a regional winemaker from Perl, cocoa, hot apple punch, and special water from the Weiskirchen healing springs. In the handicraft market, workshops from Hochwald and Saargau offer pottery, felt items, wood carvings, and Advent wreaths.

Those who want to combine a visit to the market with a short break have a choice of various wellness hotels in Weiskirchen (Kurhotel Saarschleife, Hotel Kühlbörnchen). The region is ideal for Advent hikes – for example, around the Weiskirchen Wildlife Park, through the Saarschleifenwald forest, or to the Saarschleife in Mettlach.
