Largest Volksfest of the Hochwald-Hunsrück region at the Weiskirchen Kurpark pond
Weiskirchen in the Merzig-Wadern district is a state-recognized health resort and a popular hiking area in the Saarland's Hochwald region. The extensive Kurpark with its pond, promenades, and concert shell is the heart of the community — and once a year, at the beginning of August, it becomes the venue for the Kurparkfest, which the municipality of Weiskirchen organizes together with local clubs.
The festival is divided into three very different daily formats:
The IKK Südwest Kurparklauf, with several distances (Bambini run, 5 km, 10 km), is an established running event in the Hochwald calendar. The course leads around the pond and partly into the surrounding spa forest. Registration via the municipality in advance.
Food and drink stands are operated by Weiskirchen clubs — sports clubs, carnival associations, marksmen, local history society, scouts. Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Lyoner (sausage), fries, and beer dominate the classic Saarland menu, supplemented by coffee and homemade cakes on Sunday afternoon.
The Sunday antique and flea market attracts visitors from a wider region. Over 100 stalls in the Kurpark grounds offer antiques, bric-a-brac, handicrafts, and collectibles. A magnet for bargain hunters from all over the Saarland and the adjacent Palatinate.
The festival concludes with a fireworks display on Sunday evening, launched from the pond and reflected on the water — one of the most atmospheric fireworks finales in the Saarland festival calendar.
The 44th edition of the Kurparkfest will be held from August 1st to 3rd, 2026. The municipality of Weiskirchen and local clubs confirm the tried-and-tested three-day concept: Friday evening opening with a live band, Saturday the IKK Südwest Kurparklauf and dance evening, Sunday a large antique and flea market, and fireworks.
The exact lineup of stage concerts and registration details for the Kurparklauf will be published in June 2026 on weiskirchen-saarschleifenland.de and in the local press.
Program and band announcements will be updated from June 2026 on weiskirchen-saarschleifenland.de.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Kurparklauf with a participation fee (pre-registration via the municipality of Weiskirchen). Food and drinks at usual club prices.
Weiskirchen is located in the Merzig-Wadern district, about 50 km north of Saarbrücken. By car via the A1 (exit Reinsfeld) or A8 (exit Wadern). By public transport from Saarburg or Wadern train station via bus line ME (Saarland tariff).
Admission to the festival is free. Participation in the Kurparklauf requires pre-registration and a participation fee (approx. €10–15).
Hotels and spa clinics in Weiskirchen, as well as guesthouses in Wadern, Losheim am See, and Bostalsee. As a health resort, Weiskirchen offers a particularly quiet place to stay.
If you want to visit the flea market on Sunday, you should be there before 11 a.m. — the best items are traded early.
