Crime Readings with Marshland Atmosphere

Since its premiere in 2024, the Krimi Festival Burg has become a regular fixture in the Northern German crime scene. The venue is the Bökelnburghalle on Holzmarkt in the center of the marsh community of Burg in Dithmarschen – a modern event hall with good acoustics and enough space for cozy reading formats. For four days, the program features readings, discussion rounds, and crime-themed evenings.

The Crime Genre in its Full Breadth

The festival presents the crime genre in its full spectrum: classic crime novels, regional crime fiction from the North, thrillers, historical crime stories, and experimental formats. Authors from Northern Germany and across the country read from their works, often accompanied by musical or dramatic performances that immerse the audience directly into the world of crime. The atmosphere is intimate, with close contact between authors and the audience.

Program Structure

Every evening from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 7 p.m., the festival presents its own program:

• Readings of current crime publications with the authors
• Discussion rounds on the background of the crime writing workshop
• Crime performances with musical accompaniment
• Book presentations by selected publishers and authors

Region: Dithmarschen District

Burg is located in the Dithmarschen district, a rural region between the Kiel Canal and the North Sea in Schleswig-Holstein. The marsh landscape with its Northern German weather, wide horizons, and maritime connection to the North Sea thematically complements the Northern German regional crime novels, which have secured a firm place on the bestseller lists in recent years.
