Colorful and queer in Husum — a day for visibility on the North Sea
Husum, with just under 25,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in North Friesland and the district town of the district of the same name in Schleswig-Holstein. That a town of this size organizes its own Christopher Street Day is the result of many years of visibility work by the local queer community. In a region that was historically conservative, committed individuals have built networks over the years, organized private meetings, and finally dared to step into the public eye.
The demonstration procession starts at Kleikuhle — a venue on Husum harbor — and moves through Großstraße towards the market square. It is accompanied by music floats, drum groups, and a colorful variety of clubs, initiatives, and private participants with signs and rainbow flags. On the market square, guests can expect a stage with political speeches, live music, poetry slam, and open discussion rounds.
A special feature of the Husum CSD is the service in the historic St. Mary's Church on the market square — Theodor Storm's home church and the defining landmark of the town. Local pastors accompany the day and set a sign that faith and queer life do not have to be a contradiction.
The CSD Husum deliberately avoids the scale of Berlin or Cologne. Instead of a commercial parade, the format is more intimate: initiative stands on the market square, local bands, cafes with special offers, hands-on workshops. Those looking for visibility without the noise and wanting to experience Husum's maritime flair are in the right place.
Christopher Street Day Husum returns to the Husum city center on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The day is organized in cooperation with CSD Schleswig-Holstein. The full program with times and stage acts will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The exact schedule for CSD Day 2026 will be published by the organizer CSD Schleswig-Holstein and the local Husum initiative in the weeks before the date on the central CSD Dates page. The service in St. Mary's Church and the demonstration starting from Kleikuhle are fixed components, as is the stage on the market square with live music, speeches, and poetry slam. Genres featured in previous years ranged from singer/songwriter to queer comedy to DJ sets in the afternoon.

Participation in the demonstration and street festival is free.
Train: ICE and IC connect Husum directly with Hamburg, Westerland, and Berlin. About a 10-minute walk from the station to the center. By car via the B5 (Heide–Husum) or the A23/B5 from Hamburg. Parking available at the harbor and the train station.
The demonstration and street festival are freely accessible.
Combine the CSD day with a visit to Husum harbor, the Theodor Storm House, or a mudflat hike in Schobüll — the North Sea is five minutes from the market square.
