First edition of the harbour festival with pirate village, treasure hunt, maritime market and cover pirates — Sunday opening hours
Husum, the district capital of Nordfriesland, has been connected with seafaring and maritime life for generations. Theodor Storm — the city's most famous son — captured the world of Husum's captains, sailors, and beach wardens in his stories. With the Husumer Piratentage, the maritime heritage will take on a new, playful form in 2026: A premiere that brings the family-friendly storytelling format to Husum while simultaneously revitalising the city centre.
For three days, a unique pirate universe will be created at Husum Harbour, unfolding across several locations:
The educational centrepiece: Children can earn a Pirate Pass by completing six challenging tasks — from tying knots and climbing a rigging to a treasure hunt through the harbour. The tasks are designed for age-appropriateness and lead children back and forth between the stations — which also ensures good movement within the festival grounds and prevents overcrowding at individual locations.
The maritime craft market is spread across the Schiffbrücke. Here you will find:
The musical highlight will be provided by the Coverpiraten on Saturday evening from 6 p.m. in the beach bar area. The band plays an eclectic mix of shanty classics, pop hits, and maritime adaptations — fitting the festival's DNA. The concert is part of the free programme.
On Sunday, May 17th, there will be Sunday opening hours in Husum's city centre. The Piratentage are thus well combined with a city stroll: Harbour in the morning, city centre in the afternoon, a cosy evening conclusion in one of Husum's pubs.
The Husumer Piratentage 2026 is a premiere — the new family festival by the Husum Tourism Agency and the city. The event runs from Friday, May 15th, to Sunday, May 17th, 2026, open daily from 12 noon to 6 pm. The organisers expect families from all over Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, with a focus on the North Frisian region.
