35th city district festival of the Kreuzviertel (X-Viertel) around the Kreuzkirche — August 21st to 23rd, 2026
The Kreuzviertelfest is the most identity-defining festival of Münster's Kreuzviertel — one of the most distinctive city districts of the university city, with its Wilhelminian-era architecture, creative scene, and an unusually close network of associations and business people. Since the 1990s, x4tel — Kreuzvierteler Geschäftsleute e.V. has organized the festival, for the 35th time in 2026.
From Friday, August 21st to Sunday, August 23rd, 2026, around the Kreuzkirche, in the heart of the Kreuzviertel. The festival area extends across the squares in front of the church and into the adjacent streets. Free admission.
The musical hallmark of the festival is its diversity:
The Kreuzviertel is home to several well-known dance schools — Ballettschule Heidi Sievert, Tanzschule Husemeyer, RebelTanz. All are members of x4tel and present dance performances and participatory workshops on stage and in the streets during the festival. From classical ballet to modern dance and contemporary choreography.
The festival is more than just music — it brings together associations and initiatives from the Kreuzviertel:
Numerous restaurateurs from the Kreuzviertel and all of Münster operate stalls offering:
Like many district festivals, the Kreuzviertelfest is under financial pressure — organizers speak of a strained situation and express their sincere thanks "to all sponsors, without whom the festival would not be possible on this scale." Despite the difficulties, the event is confirmed for 2026.
The Kreuzviertel is located north of Münster's old town, between Wienburgpark and Kreuzschanze. With its Wilhelminian-era architecture, numerous small shops, and young population, it is considered one of Münster's liveliest districts. Münster, with around 320,000 inhabitants, is a university city and the administrative seat of Westphalia.
City district festival with high participation from local business people, associations, and dance schools. Family-friendly, accessible, with a long tradition since the early 1990s. Financial situation strained in 2026, but the event is nevertheless announced.
