Three days of harvest thanksgiving in the historic barn district — "Our Farmyard"
The Kremmen Harvest Festival is the biggest annual highlight of the North Brandenburg town of Kremmen — a small town of just over 7,700 inhabitants in the Oberhavel district, located on the edge of the Rhinluch. The festival has a venue that is unique in Germany: the historic barn district, a contiguous ensemble of over 30 old fieldstone barns dating from the 17th to 19th centuries right on the outskirts of town. The Harvest Festival takes place in this area and the surrounding old town from September 4th to 6th, 2026.
The 2026 festival motto is "Our Farmyard – The Best from the Field, the Meadow, and the Stable". With this, Kremmen emphasizes its identity as a town shaped by agriculture: For centuries, the Rhinluch south of the town has been one of Brandenburg's most important meadow and pasture landscapes, and dairy farming and beef cattle are still part of the economic life today. The motto will be visible in the festival parade, market, and program.
Friday evening traditionally opens with the lantern procession in front of St. Nikolai Church — children walk through the town center with their homemade lanterns, accompanied by music and horn players. Saturday is the big day: the festival parade with decorated harvest wagons starts at Oranienburger Weg, proceeds through the old town into the barn district. Farmers, clubs, schools, and kindergartens design their wagons around the festival motto. On Saturday and Sunday, the barn district hosts a crafts and flea market, gastronomy islands, and stages. Sunday concludes the festival with a family program, farmers' market, and live music.
The Kremmen Barn District has become the town's tourist flagship since the 1990s. The restored fieldstone barns now house galleries, workshops, an adventure farm, cafés, and restaurants — during the Harvest Festival, the entire complex becomes a festival mile. Strolling here means walking through one of Northern Germany's largest contiguous barn ensembles, sampling local products from the Rhinluch, and hunting for GDR treasures, old tools, or Brandenburg farmer's pottery at the flea market.
Kremmen is also one of the centers for Beelitz asparagus cultivation outside of Beelitz — the Kremmen Asparagus Farm, located right by the barn district, has been a tourist magnet for decades. In September, the asparagus season is over, but the autumn harvest (pumpkins, potatoes, game dishes) takes center stage. The Asparagus Farm presents its own "Harvest Festival in the Barn District" event with a farmer's breakfast, animal show, and farm tours.
Anyone wishing to participate in the festival parade with a decorated harvest wagon should register via the Kremmen town administration ((033055) 9980). Applications for market stalls for the arts, crafts, and flea market also go through the town. The fee structure is currently being revised — reduced stall fees are planned for vendors who use reusable packaging.
The Kremmen town administration and the local festival committee are organizing the 2026 event under the motto "Our Farmyard". The festival parade, market, and stage program will highlight the region's agricultural identity.
