Wine-hiking enjoyment through the Kraichtal vineyards — 10 km circular route with approx. 15 tasting stations, regional vintners and culinary specialties
The Kraichtaler Weinwandertag is one of the most beautiful wine festival formats in the Kraichgau. Instead of a stationary wine festival in a marketplace, a hiking course is laid out through the Kraichtal vineyards: around a 10-kilometer circular route connecting vineyard sites at different altitudes and comprising about 15 tasting stations. You reach the next station about every 20 minutes of walking time — the rhythm is good for hiking and good for wine tasting at the same time.
You start at any station along the circular route. The stations are hosted by the Kraichtal vintners and restaurateurs — each stand offers a small selection of its wines (Riesling, Burgundy, Schwarzriesling, Lemberger), Secco, non-alcoholic alternatives, along with culinary specialties: Swabian-Baden snacks, Maultaschen, Flammkuchen, cheese from regional farm dairies, bread, and spreads. The vineyards in April are in the blooming season of fruit trees — orchards, peach, almond, and mirabelle trees bloom along the path.
Sunday, April 12, 2026, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The circular route is signposted; maps are available at all stations. You can walk clockwise or counterclockwise, join wherever you like, leave early, take a bus for part of the way — anything is possible. A hiking group of 4 to 8 people is recommended, with some preparation (sturdy footwear, light rain jacket, water to accompany, wine glass or small tasting cup).
Kraichtal is a municipality in the Karlsruhe district with around 15,000 inhabitants — formed from nine sub-municipalities (including Münzesheim, Gochsheim, Bahnbrücken, Oberöwisheim, Unteröwisheim), each of which practices viticulture. The region between Bruchsal, Eppingen, and Heilbronn — the Kraichgau — is one of Württemberg's oldest wine-growing regions, with traditions dating back to the Middle Ages. The mild climate, loess soils, and gentle hills produce wines that are friendly, fruity, and uncomplicated — perfect for a spring wine festival.
Due to the wine tastings, traveling by train is strongly recommended. Kraichtal can be reached from Bruchsal by bus and the S31 suburban train line. Locally, shuttle buses can also be used between the sub-municipalities.
The circular route connects the vineyard sites of the Kraichtal sub-municipalities. The tasting stations are run by wine-growing families and local restaurateurs; each station has its own culinary signature. In April, the fruit trees are in bloom — apricot, mirabelle, apple, pear, peach, almond — which gives the path a special spring atmosphere.
