Feminist cultural week in Erfurt with over 50 events
KRAFTWERKE — culture.equality.now! is Erfurt's feminist cultural week and is among the most ambitious cultural events in Thuringia in spring. From March 1st to 8th, 2026 — framed by International Women's Day — over 50 events will take place: exhibitions, performances, workshops, readings, discussion rounds, dance theatre, demonstrations. Spread across the entire city area, at theatres, galleries, cultural centres, and in public spaces.
Programmatically, KRAFTWERKE positions itself as a deliberately political cultural week. The organizers emphasize that culture is «far more than mere entertainment» — it is a tool for societal discourse. The cultural week sees itself as resistance against right-wing political currents that threaten feminist achievements, making feminism visible through art and discourse.
Planned events include a feminist fashion week with a pop-up store, workshops on tool usage and repair, a discussion workshop explicitly for men (on acceptable language), an exhibition on self-perception with four female artists, panel discussions on the connection between feminism and climate protection, dance theatre on women's experiences, a self-defense workshop for FLINTA individuals, and feminist photo walks through the city.
The cultural week culminates on March 8th, 2026 — International Women's Day — in a large demonstration that combines artistic performances with public activism against patriarchal structures. Erfurt thus joins a nationwide and international tradition of feminist mobilizations around March 8th.
The cultural week is supported by the Ständige Kulturvertretung Erfurt (SKV) and EnkL Erfurt. Both organizations belong to the independent cultural scene of the state capital and cooperate with numerous theatres, galleries, cultural centres, and initiatives that host individual events. The variety of venues distributes the program across the entire city area.
The 2026 cultural week is spread over eight days. It kicks off on Sunday, March 1st, with an opening event at one of the central venues. Throughout the week, daytime and evening events alternate, with workshops taking place on Saturdays and in the evenings. March 8th, International Women's Day, is the focal point — with a large demonstration, artistic performances in public spaces, and a programmatic conclusion.
Themes: Feminism and climate protection, self-perception in art, acceptable language (workshop for men), feminist fashion and pop-up stores, repair and tool usage, dance theatre on women's experiences, FLINTA self-defense, feminist walks through the city.
