About Kornburger Kärwa
Kornburger Kärwa — edition 2026
For four days, from Friday, July 3rd to Monday, July 6th, 2026, the Kornburger Kirchweih will be celebrated on Kornburger Hauptstraße 29. As is customary for Nuremberg district Kärwas, the Kärwabaum, festival tent, carousels, music bands, and club stalls will shape the scene. The exact program will be communicated before the event by the local clubs in Kornburg via local notices and the City of Nuremberg.
The date fits into Nuremberg's dense Kärwa calendar, which is published annually on the platform nuernberg.de and brings together several district Kärwas between late spring and early autumn.

Nuremberg District Kärwa
Nuremberg is home to around 40 district Kirchweihen, which take place between the end of April and the end of September each year. Each "Kärwa" has its own character, stemming from the district's profile – from the market square Kärwa in the old town to the village-like Kärwa in the incorporated areas. The Kornburger Kärwa is one of the latter and preserves its local festival character in the south of Nuremberg.
Kornburg in Southern Nuremberg
Kornburg belongs to Nuremberg's Statistical District 99 (Nuremberg South) and was historically an independent municipality, incorporated into Nuremberg during the Bavarian administrative reform of 1972. Today, Kornburg is a pleasant district in the south of the city with a village core, characterized by old buildings along Kornburger Hauptstraße. The Nuremberg-Kornburg train station is on S-Bahn line 2 towards Roth.
Kärwabaum and Tradition
The most striking element of the Franconian Kärwa is the "Kärwabaum": a highly decorated tree trunk, erected by the "Kerwabuam" (festival lads) and ceremoniously danced around at the end of the festival. In Kornburg, local clubs organize the festival in cooperation with the City of Nuremberg, which publishes an annual Kärwa calendar. During the Kärwa days, the festival tent, carousels, club stalls, and music bands shape the scene around Kornburger Hauptstraße.
Festival Culture in a Big City
The City of Nuremberg emphasizes that the Kärwa today "fulfills less of a religious function and more represents the cohesion of the citizens in the district." In precisely this spirit, the Kornburger Kirchweih is an event where former and current residents of Kornburg come together, sit in the clubs' festival tent, and interweave the year with each other.
