Bavarian Folk Theatre in Königstein
The Königsteiner Bauerntheater was founded on November 20, 1978, by Günter Seibold and has been preserving Bavarian theatre tradition for almost 50 years. It performs on an open-air stage in the former Catholic rectory garden on Schlossgasse in the market town of Königstein in the Upper Palatinate.
Rural Comedies in the Open Air
Every year, the amateur theatre group stages a rural comedy in dialect. The performances are spread over several evenings in June and attract a loyal audience from all over the region. Proceeds repeatedly benefit charitable causes, such as the First Responder group Königstein.
Tradition and Direction
Artistic direction is by Hans-Jürgen Pirner, who has been with the group since 1983 and has been directing since June 2023. With its long-standing continuity, the Bauerntheater stands for lived customs and club culture in rural areas.

The Königsteiner Bauerntheater will stage the play »Zapp-Zarapp« on the open-air stage in the former Catholic rectory garden on Schlossgasse in Königstein in 2026.
Performances will take place on five evenings: Saturday, June 13, Sunday, June 14, Friday, June 19, Sunday, June 21, and Saturday, June 27, 2026, each at 6:30 PM. Hans-Jürgen Pirner is directing.
