About Knight Festival Potsdam

Whitsun 2026 will see Volkspark Potsdam transform into a marketplace from the High Middle Ages for the twentieth time: knights in full armour, jugglers, fire-eaters, and musicians will parade through the Großer Wiesenpark from May 23rd to 25th. The anniversary year is dedicated to the dragon Morghul, who the Bohemian knights will hunt across the festival grounds. For three days, families can experience tournaments, theatre, acrobatics, and crafts – a classic of the Brandenburg event season, traditionally marking the start of the Whitsun holidays.

Twenty Years of Knight Festival in Volkspark

Since 2007, Cocolorus Budenzauber has been inviting visitors to the Knight Festival in Volkspark Potsdam – in 2026, the event celebrates its 20th edition. For three days, from May 23rd to 25th, the Großer Wiesenpark will become the largest medieval stage in the capital city of Brandenburg. The festival is a staple of the region's Whitsun programme and attracts thousands of families from Potsdam, Berlin, and the entire state of Brandenburg every year.

Morghul, the Dragon

Every year, the organisers focus on a new theme. In 2026, it's: "On the Trail of the Dragon Morghul". The Bohemian knights are on the hunt for the winged beast, which is hiding somewhere between market stalls and show fights. Children can join the search party, participate in dragon hunts, and marvel at dragon scales at the end of the day.

Four Stages, One Spectacle

The festival grounds are divided into four areas. On the Theatre Wagon, puppet shows, magic, clowning, and swing music alternate in seven performances between 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM. On the High Wire, acrobats and the Colour Theatre for children showcase their skills (1 PM–4 PM). The Viking Ship Stage offers world music and ancient melodies (11:30 AM–4 PM). On the central Meadow Area, the knight tournaments and show fights of the Order of the Black Knights and the Bull Moat Clan take place – several times daily between 11 AM and 5:30 PM.

Artists and Music

The anniversary programme features magician Santini, the Traumfänger mask and stilt theatre, the Panikkompanie acrobatics troupe, and Lady Mariann on the tightrope. Musically, Soul O'Henri, Varius, and Satolstelamanderfanz accompany the festivities. Each evening concludes with the fire show "Araga Mysteria".

Participate, Don't Just Watch

The Knight Festival has always emphasized active participation. Children can swing bows at the archery range, try their hand at axe throwing, learn basket weaving, jump on the trampoline, or be knighted. Garküchen (food stalls) serve medieval dishes and mead, bratwurst, stick bread, and honey wine throughout the festival grounds.

Brandenburg's Three-Day Classic

In the district of Potsdam (independent city), the Knight Festival is a firm fixture of the Whitsun programme. Those who miss it in 2026 are in luck: Cocolorus Budenzauber offers two more weekends shortly after (May 30th – June 1st and June 6th–8th) before the festival grounds are handed over to the next organisers.

Knight Festival Potsdam — edition 2026

For its 20th anniversary, Volkspark Potsdam transforms into a medieval market at Whitsun 2026, with the dragon Morghul at its centre. Four stages, knight tournaments by the Order of the Black Knights and the Bull Moat Clan, theatre, acrobatics, world music, and the evening fire show "Araga Mysteria" – Cocolorus Budenzauber pulls out all the stops for its anniversary programme.

The 2026 Knight Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary with a programme that brings together all the proven elements of the Cocolorus Budenzauber tradition. The dragon Morghul becomes the common thread of the Whitsun weekend: Bohemian knights hunt him across the Großer Wiesenpark, and children can join the search.

Four stages share the programme: the Theatre Wagon with puppet theatre, magician Santini, clowning, and swing (seven performances 10:30 AM–5:30 PM); the High Wire with the acrobatics troupe Panikkompanie and Lady Mariann (1 PM–4 PM); the Viking Ship Stage with Soul O'Henri, Varius, and Satolstelamanderfanz (11:30 AM–4 PM); the Meadow Area with show fights by the Order of the Black Knights and the Bull Moat Clan (11 AM–5:30 PM).

Highlight of the evening: the fire show "Araga Mysteria". Activities for children: archery, axe throwing, basket weaving, painting, trampoline, knighting ceremony.
