Grand Monastery Festival for the 900th anniversary of the Premonstratensian Abbey Roggenburg with a celebratory service and anniversary program
Kloster Roggenburg in the municipality of Roggenburg, district of Neu-Ulm in the Bavarian administrative region of Swabia, was founded around 1126 and has shaped the spiritual and cultural life of the region ever since. In 2026, the Premonstratensian canons will celebrate the 900th anniversary of the monastery — a place of faith, education, and encounter looks back on nine centuries of history.
The highlight of the anniversary year is the main celebration day on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The focus will be on a solemn celebratory service, officiated by Augsburg Bishop Bertram Meier together with the Abbot General of the Premonstratensians, Jos Wouters O.Praem. Afterwards, the monastery invites you to the monastery festival with personal encounters, hospitality, and a supporting program in the historic monastery grounds.
The anniversary year is not limited to one day: Anniversary Sundays with guest preachers will take place throughout the months. In addition, there will be special guided tours of the monastery church and complex, an escape room game for small groups, KlosterLeben programs for school and kindergarten groups, an interactive Actionbound tour outdoors, and special exhibitions in the monastery museum.
For the anniversary, the monastery is releasing its own products: Roggenburg anniversary wines from the Augustinian Canons' Foundation Klosterneuburg near Vienna, as well as a special beer from Brauerei Schmid. Both combine the monastic tradition of viticulture and brewing with the festive year.
The baroque Kloster Roggenburg is today a vibrant center for education and encounter. The impressive monastery church, the Forsthaus, the education center, and the Klostergasthaus make Roggenburg a supra-regional attraction in western Swabia — the 900-year festival underscores the importance of the site for the region between Ulm and Augsburg.
On October 3, 2026, Kloster Roggenburg will celebrate the central festival day of its 900th anniversary. The celebratory service will be officiated by Augsburg Bishop Bertram Meier together with the Premonstratensian Abbot General Jos Wouters O.Praem. The festival day is embedded in a year-round anniversary program for 2026: Anniversary Sundays with guest preachers, special guided tours, escape room, KlosterLeben programs, Actionbound tour, and special exhibitions in the monastery museum. Roggenburg anniversary wines from Stift Klosterneuburg and a special beer from Brauerei Schmid will be produced.
