About Roggenburg Summer

The Roggenburg Summer is the traditional monastery concert series of the Premonstratensian Abbey of Roggenburg in Bavarian Swabia. In 2026, the concert season coincides with an exceptional event: the 900th anniversary of the convent, founded in 1126. From April to October 2026, concerts for pan flute, organ, classical ensembles, open-air acts (CASH-N-GO), and festive church services will alternate. Highlights include the celebratory service for Jubilate Sunday on June 14th with Bishop Bertram Meier and the Monastery Festival on October 3rd, marking the season's end.

A Monastery Turns 900 Years Old

The Premonstratensian Abbey of Roggenburg in Bavarian Swabia is one of Germany's oldest monasteries and celebrates its 900th anniversary in 2026 — founded in 1126, it is one of the few continuously existing Premonstratensian abbeys in the German-speaking world. The monastery, located in the idyllic Langtal valley about 25 kilometers south of Ulm and 30 kilometers west of Augsburg, boasts the baroque Collegiate Basilica, one of Southern Germany's most magnificent sacred spaces, and serves as an important spiritual and cultural center for the region.

Roggenburg Summer as a Concert Series

The Roggenburg Summer has been established for years: an all-year-round, but summer-concentrated, concert series held in the Collegiate Basilica, the monastery courtyard, and on the monastery meadow. The basilica's excellent acoustics make it a sought-after venue for choral and orchestral music, organ concerts, and chamber music programs — many renowned soloists and ensembles from Germany and abroad perform in Roggenburg.

Diverse Concert Program 2026

The 2026 concert series includes, among others, an Easter Concert on April 6th, a Pan Flute Concert with Daniela de Santos on June 13th, the Carissimi Ensemble on June 21st, a classical Organ Concert on July 5th, the acclaimed open-air concert CASH-N-GO in the monastery courtyard on Saturday, July 11th, starting at 8 PM (Johnny Cash tribute), and the Swabian pop concert Maxjoseph on October 10th. Additionally, monthly Jubilate Sundays are held on the second Sunday of each month with guest preachers and special liturgical accents.

Celebratory Service with Bishop Bertram Meier

The spiritual highlight is the Jubilate Summer Festival Service on Sunday, June 14th, 2026 — directly on the third Sunday after Easter, the traditional Jubilate Sunday in the church year. The pontifical service will be celebrated by Bishop Bertram Meier of the Diocese of Augsburg and Abbot Jos Wouters, Abbot General of the Premonstratensians. The Monastery Festival on October 3rd, marking the season's end, includes a festive service, a reception for the mayor, a communal meal, and a concert.

Experiential Monastery with Escape Room

The Roggenburg concept extends beyond classical monastery concerts: an Escape Room titled Save the Monastery Treasure offers family groups an interactive experience within the monastery building. The KlosterLeben (Monastery Life) program is aimed at school classes and children, while Actionbound is a smartphone-based outdoor scavenger hunt on the monastery grounds. This positions Roggenburg as a modern spiritual experience center, blending tradition with contemporary engagement.

Roggenburg Summer — edition 2026

The Roggenburg Summer season 2026 runs from April to October and coincides with the monastery's 900th anniversary. Concerts for pan flute, classical ensembles, and open-air acts, a celebratory service with Bishop Bertram Meier on June 14th, the Monastery Festival on October 3rd, monthly Jubilate Sundays, an escape room, and anniversary products.

The 2026 anniversary season marks the 900th anniversary of the Premonstratensian Abbey of Roggenburg, founded in 1126. Over half a year, an exceptionally dense program of concerts and events unfolds in the Collegiate Basilica and at the monastery site.

The program combines classical monastery concerts (organ, choir, ensembles) with open-air concerts of popular music (CASH-N-GO as a Johnny Cash tribute, Swabian pop Maxjoseph) and festive church services on traditional Marian and Jubilate Sundays. The spiritual highlight is the celebratory service with Bishop Bertram Meier on June 14th.
