Advent weekend between Art Nouveau and Gründerzeit by the Müggelsee
Bölschestraße in Friedrichshagen is considered one of Berlin's best-preserved Gründerzeit streets. When the fairy lights are strung between the Art Nouveau facades in early December and the scent of Feuerzangenbowle wafts from the stalls, the 1.2-kilometer-long avenue transforms into one of the capital's most atmospheric Christmas settings.
Unlike the large tourist Christmas markets at Gendarmenmarkt or Charlottenburg Palace, the Bölschestraße Advent market remains a genuine neighborhood market. More than a hundred stalls present arts and crafts, regional specialties, and original gift ideas beyond the mainstream. Wood carvings, ceramics, hand-poured candles, and textile art dominate the offerings.
Bratwurst, roasted almonds, mulled wine, and punch are, of course, included. For the younger visitors, a nostalgic children's carousel spins in the middle of the street, and live music plays on a small stage. The free location between the Gründerzeit houses creates an intimate, almost village-like atmosphere, which is rarely found elsewhere in Berlin.
Friedrichshagen is located in southeastern Berlin and became known at the end of the 19th century as a colonial settlement founded by Frederick William IV. Bölschestraße leads straight from the S-Bahn station to the Müggelsee, Berlin's largest lake. A walk along the winter shore after visiting the market is a standard part of the routine for many regulars.
The event is organized by Jüttner Entertainment in cooperation with the Friedrichshagen Business Association. The market traditionally takes place on the second or third Advent weekend and is one of the quieter, more authentic alternatives in the Berlin state—perfect if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
The traditional Christmas market in Friedrichshagen will take place in 2026 on an extended Advent weekend. Over 100 stalls will be spread along Bölschestraße between the S-Bahn station and the Müggelsee promenade. The organizers have set the dates as December 18-20, 2026; the full program will be published on the website a few weeks beforehand.
The detailed 2026 program is expected to be published from November onwards on hauptstadtkultur.berlin. Analogous to previous years, expect:
The exact daily schedule and stage times will be announced by the organizer Jüttner Entertainment in December.
S-Bahn station Friedrichshagen (S3) is located directly at the beginning of Bölschestraße. Trams 60 and 61 also run along the street. Driving is possible, but parking is limited in the side streets.
Free admission. Payment at the stalls is mostly in cash.
Combine your market visit with a walk along the wintery Müggelsee or a stop at one of the historic cafés on Bölschestraße.
