Classical concerts in the baroque Imperial Hall of Ebrach Abbey
The Ebrach Summer of Music is a distinguished festival for classical music in the former Cistercian abbey of Kloster Ebrach in the Steigerwald forest, municipality of Ebrach in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg. The festival was founded in 1990 by conductor Gerd Schaller, who still holds the artistic direction.
The concerts take place in two extraordinary venues: the magnificent baroque Kaisersaal and the early Gothic Abteikirche (abbey church) of the monastery. The historic architecture and excellent acoustics lend the performances a special atmosphere that has made the festival famous far beyond the region.
The programme features renowned ensembles: the Czech Symphony Orchestra Prague, orchestras with musicians from the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, and the Philharmonie Festiva. Particularly the internationally acclaimed Bruckner Cycle, conducted by Gerd Schaller in the abbey church, has earned the Ebrach Summer of Music an outstanding reputation in the classical music world. The repertoire ranges from Beethoven, Rossini, and Bach to Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Bruckner.
With its blend of first-class performers, sophisticated programme, and the impressive setting of Kloster Ebrach, the Summer of Music is one of the most important classical festivals in Franconia. It makes the Steigerwald and the Bamberg district a cultural attraction from early summer to early autumn.
The Ebrach Summer of Music 2026 offers four concerts between Pentecost and early autumn at Ebrach Abbey.
