Variety in the baroque palace park
As the sun slowly sets over the Schlosspark Oranienbaum, one of Central Germany's most beautiful open-air experiences begins. The Kleinkunsttraum Oranienbaum transforms the baroque park into a walkable stage landscape over two consecutive evenings in June: 16 stages are spread between the palace, orangery, pagoda, and hedges; 40 artists perform in around 20 different shows. In between, you stroll through the park, encountering walking acts, stilt walkers, fire artists, and fairy-tale characters.
The concept is deliberately non-linear: there are no fixed seats and no tightly scheduled main program. You choose what you want to see — acrobatics at the orangery, magic on the main stage, mime at the pagoda, puppetry in the hedge theatre. Both evenings offer the same program; many visitors come for one of the two dates, some combine both. The official opening is at 6:30 PM in front of the palace; from 6:45 PM, the program runs concurrently on all stages. The evening concludes with a grand finale in front of the palace facade.
The Schlosspark Oranienbaum is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz — one of Germany's most important cultural landscapes. In the late 18th century, Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau developed a cohesive garden artwork here, combining English, Chinese, and Dutch garden ideals. Oranienbaum, originally a summer residence of the Orange-Dutch Princess Henriette Catharina, is a special jewel in the ensemble with its baroque layout and Chinese garden. The state of Saxony-Anhalt promotes the Garden Kingdom as a cultural flagship.
The Kleinkunsttraum is organized by the Kulturstiftung DessauWörlitz and has been one of the most visited open-air variety events in Saxony-Anhalt for years. In good weather, families, couples, and culture enthusiasts from all over Central Germany flock to Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the Wittenberg district.
The 2026 edition of Kleinkunsttraum Oranienbaum will once again bring around 40 variety artists from all over Europe to the palace park on June 12 and 13, 2026. Admission each day from 5:00 PM, official opening at 6:30 PM in front of the palace, program starts on all stages at 6:45 PM. The program for both evenings is identical and concludes with a grand finale in front of the palace facade.
The list of individual acts will be published in spring 2026 on gartenreich.de.
