The Bavarian Music Academy in the Baroque Castle
Schloss Alteglofsheim is one of the most important baroque castles in the Upper Palatinate and home to the Bavarian Music Academy. The academy, a consortium of the district of Upper Palatinate, has been training musicians for decades and is a venue for concerts, masterclasses, and workshops. Alteglofsheim is located about 18 kilometers southeast of Regensburg in the district of Regensburg in the state of Bavaria.
Premiere of the Klassikwoche 2026
The 1st Klassikwoche Alteglofsheim is a new format from the academy: In early September 2026, several masterclasses will take place in parallel — a string quartet masterclass with the renowned Minguet Quartett, a lied masterclass for voice with soprano Julia Sophie Wagner and baritone Daniel Ochoa, supplemented by workshops and lectures on performance practice. The masterclasses run from September 2 to 6, 2026, with the final concert taking place on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Final Concert on September 4, 2026
The musical highlight of the Klassikwoche is the joint final concert of the string quartet and lied courses on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the academy's concert hall. The program includes works from the repertoire of the lied masterclass and string quartet literature, performed by tutors Julia Sophie Wagner, Daniel Ochoa, the Minguet Quartett, and selected course participants. The Ensemble Else is also involved as the resident ensemble.
The Minguet Quartett and Else Ensemble
The Minguet Quartett, founded in 1988, is one of Germany's most internationally recognized string quartets. They give masterclasses in Cologne, at the Hochschule für Musik »Hanns Eisler« Berlin, and now also in Alteglofsheim. The Else Ensemble — a resident ensemble of the Bavarian Music Academy — accompanies the Klassikwoche and complements the program with its own concert formats.
Schloss Alteglofsheim — Cultural Venue of the Upper Palatinate
The baroque castle Alteglofsheim was built in the 17th century and is today one of the outstanding venues for classical music in the Upper Palatinate. The concert hall with its excellent acoustics, the castle garden, and the dining rooms together form a unique setting for concerts and music education. The Bavarian Music Academy operates the building as a meeting and educational center for music culture — an institution that holds its own position in competition with academies such as Wolfegg, Trossingen, and Hammelburg.
