World Music in the Heart of East Westphalia
Klangkosmos World Music is the long-established concert series for world music at Theater Gütersloh. The 2026/2027 season kicks off on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Admission is free, donations are welcome.
Six Concerts, Six Worlds
The complete 2026/2027 season at a glance — always in the auditorium at Hans-Werner-Henze-Platz 1, starting at 6:30 PM:
- October 6, 2026 — Duo Selawy & Hamboz (Middle East / Arabic music with storytelling)
- January 18, 2027 — Kerbez
- February 11, 2027 — Lavinia Mancusi Duo (Italy / Mediterranean tradition)

Each concert lasts about an hour — compact, intense, and acoustically excellent in the sleek architecture of the auditorium.
Bürgerstiftung Gütersloh as Patron
The concert series is made possible by the long-standing commitment of the Bürgerstiftung Gütersloh, which financially supports the series and thus ensures free admission. Donations from the audience flow back into the series and enable future seasons. Klangkosmos shows: High-quality culture doesn't have to be expensive if the community participates.
Concept: From the Traditional to the New
Klangkosmos' curatorial line connects the music of the countries of origin with the present — not a folklore museum, but living musical traditions that evolve. Selawy & Hamboz, for example, combine classical Arabic Maqamat with modern songwriting; Mamy Kanouté blends the Senegalese Mbalax tradition with jazz influences.
Gütersloh — A Theater City in East Westphalia
Gütersloh is a medium-sized city in the district of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the southern edge of the Münsterland region. The Gütersloh district is one of the economically strongest in Germany — home to Bertelsmann, Miele, and Storck. The Theater Gütersloh at Hans-Werner-Henze-Platz opened in 2010 and is considered an architectural gem (Architect: Jörg Friedrich). With Klangkosmos, drama series, and concerts, it is the cultural center of the region.
