Village harvest festival of the Wensebrock marksmen's association — secular tradition in the Bothel collective municipality
The Wensebrock Harvest Festival looks back on a secular tradition. Generations of Wensebrock residents have carried and passed on the customs. The Wensebrock marksmen's association is closely linked within the association network to the neighboring associations from Brockel, Westervesede, and Wohlsdorf and they visit each other for their respective harvest festivals.
At the center of the festival is the harvest crown — woven from the fruits of this year's harvest. It is carried in a procession through the Wensebrock village and symbolizes gratitude for the harvest. Farmer families, rural women, marksmen, and children accompany the procession.
A Thanksgiving service gives thanks for the harvest and places agricultural customs in a spiritual context. The service is open to all denominations and all residents.
After the spiritual part, marksmen's festival elements follow: King's shooting, crowning of the new monarchs, dance evening in the festival tent with live music. The festival combines the character of a harvest thanksgiving with marksmen's tradition and a folk festival atmosphere.
The Wensebrock Harvest Festival is the social highlight of the Wensebrock annual program and a meeting point for the entire village community. Former Wensebrock residents return for the festival, families celebrate together, and friendly associations are guests.
The harvest festival begins on Sunday afternoon with the procession and the service. This is followed by marksmen's festival elements and the evening celebration in the festival tent.
Generations have maintained the customs. Today, the harvest festival remains the social highlight of the Wensebrock village community.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Wensebrock Marksmen's Association in late summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years.
