Eight summer evenings, two concerts per day, always in the most beautiful setting of Bielefeld's old town: The Klang!Festival SommerabendTürchen opens its doors daily free of charge from July 3 to 10, 2026 in the Altstädter Nicolaikirche and on the Altstädter Kirchplatz. At 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM, short concerts with Bielefeld ensembles are scheduled — pop, vocal music, chamber music, choral music, plus special formats for families (fairy tale concerts) and professionals (After-Work-Singing). Participants include the Young Voices Bielefeld, the KuMu Chor, the Frauenchor Chor!Klang, and musicians from the municipal music and art school.

Getting There

A 10-minute walk from Bielefeld main station to the old town. Take tram line 1, 2, 3, or 4 to "Jahnplatz," then a 3-minute walk to Altstädter Kirchplatz.

Bielefeld's Summer Concert Series — Summer Comes to Nicolaikirche

When the days are longest, the Altstädter Nicolaikirche in the heart of Bielefeld transforms into a concert stage. The SommerabendTürchen, organized by Klang!Festival e.V., brings two concerts daily for eight consecutive days to the late Gothic church and the adjacent church square. The concept: short, crisp concerts (approx. 45 minutes each), diverse genres, free admission, and a collegial atmosphere with Schneiders Biergarten right in front of the church.

Eight Days of Programming — From July 3 to 10, 2026

Two fixed slots every evening: 4:30 PM for an early end to the day in the city center, and 7:00 PM for the main evening concert. In between, the church is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, inviting visitors for devotion, concerts, and coffee. The musical spectrum ranges from pop and singer-songwriter to chamber music and vocal music of various styles.

Participating Ensembles

The mainstays of the series are the Young Voices Bielefeld (youth choir), the KuMu Chor of the municipal music and art school, the Frauenchor Chor!Klang, children's choirs from the region, and musicians from the music school. In addition, there are guest performances by regional bands and Bielefeld chamber music ensembles.

Special Formats — Family, After-Work, Fairy Tales

In addition to the classic evening concerts, there are three special formats: Family Concerts for families with children, After-Work-Singing as a communal sing-along after work, and Fairy Tale Concerts with storytelling and musical accompaniment — especially for children.
