Three days of festival mile on the market square — Sunday shopping, fashion show, and live stages
Kitzingen is the district town of the Kitzingen district in the heart of the Franconian wine region, picturesquely located on the Main knee. The historic old town with its striking market tower, the collegiate church of St. Johannes, and the market square forms the natural backdrop for the annual Stadtfest (city festival). Organized by the City of Kitzingen together with the City Marketing Association, the festival has become one of the most popular May/June events in Lower Franconia.
The venue is the city center around the market square and the main shopping streets. Several live stages are spread across the main squares — Franconian cover bands, regional acts, folk, and pop. The Spielstraße (play street) for families offers games and crafts, bouncy castles, children's carousels, and free hands-on activities. A large fashion show by Kitzingen's boutiques has been a standalone program item with real audience success for years.
The Sunday of the city festival is traditionally a verkaufsoffen (open for shopping) — the shops in the city center open their doors from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and often offer special promotions, sales, and special services. In combination with the ongoing festival, this is a magnet for visitors from the entire Franconian wine region.
Stalls from Kitzingen's gastronomy line up on the market square and adjacent squares — Franconian specialties (Bratwurst, Schäuferla, Käskuchen, desserts) meet street food and international cuisine. Franconian wines from surrounding wineries, draft beer from regional breweries, and of course, Main water coffee.
Kitzingen is located in the heart of the Franconian wine region, about 20 km east of Würzburg. With about 21,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest towns in the Maindreieck. Its location on the Main, the historic old town, viticulture in the surrounding area, and the cultural activity of the city administration make Kitzingen one of the most attractive medium-sized towns in Lower Franconia. The city festival confirms this position year after year.
The 2026 edition continues the diverse city festival program. Cover bands, regional acts, and special programs alternate on the stages. The play street offers central activities for families — carousels, bouncy castles, craft activities, and free hands-on stations.
As usual, the highlight of Saturday is the fashion show by Kitzingen's boutiques, which attracts thousands of spectators every year. Sunday is dedicated to the Sunday shopping — shops and stalls come together, and many families from the Franconian wine region visit Kitzingen for a full day of festivities.
