Three Days of Franconian Wine, Live Music, and Riverside Atmosphere
Albertshofen is one of the smaller wine-growing communities in the Kitzingen district, located on the bend of the Main river below Kitzingen. For decades, the local vintners celebrated their wine festival on the banks of the Main — known as the Albertshöfer Weinfest. In 2018, the event was re-conceptualized and renamed: Höpper Mainwiesen. The name plays on the Franconian dialect ("höpper" for hopping, jumping, moving) and emphasizes the festive, exuberant atmosphere of the three days on the Main riverbank.
The venue is the Mainwiese in Albertshofen — a wide green space directly on the banks of the Main, lined with poplar trees and vineyards. The meadow is located a few hundred meters from the town center and offers extensive catering areas, a central stage, sales stands of the vintners, and enough space for a cozy gathering between concerts.
The centerpiece of the festival is the Franconian wines from Albertshofen's vintners — Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Spätburgunder, and Domina. The vintners serve the wine themselves and are available for questions about vineyard sites, vintages, and winemaking. A special tradition: the annual election of the Wine Princess (Höppermainwiesen-Weinprinzessin), a young representative of the Albertshofen winemaking community.
Over the three festival days, live bands alternate on the main stage — from Franconian Bavarian pop bands and cover bands to smaller acoustic sets. In addition, there are food stalls with Franconian cuisine (Bratwurst, Bratzeles, Schäuferla), desserts, and non-alcoholic alternatives. There are small play areas for children.
Albertshofen belongs to the Kitzingen district, the heart of Franconian viticulture. Its southern location on the Main bend ensures particularly sunny slopes — the Albertshofen vineyards are among the high-quality "Vinothekenberge" (wine bar mountains) of Franconia. Höpper Mainwiesen is part of a dense calendar of wine festivals that shapes the entire district from May to October.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format of the Höpper Mainwiesen. Three festival days, a central stage with a live program every evening, several stands from Albertshofen vintners, and food stalls with Franconian cuisine.
The Mainwiese offers extensive seating areas with a view of the Main — in summer weather, one of the most beautiful wine festival atmospheres in Franconia. Thousands of visitors from Albertshofen, Kitzingen, the Würzburg area, Bamberg, and the wider region come every year.
