Founding anniversary of the Hohenwarth Volunteer Fire Brigade with vehicle consecration
In the summer of 2026, the Hohenwarth Volunteer Fire Brigade has two reasons to celebrate: it turns 150 years old and is simultaneously putting a new operational vehicle into service. The festive vehicle consecration is a well-established tradition in the Catholic Bavarian Forest: a new vehicle is consecrated by a priest in front of the entire festival congregation, and the protection of the operating crew and the public is invoked. With the festival weekend, Hohenwarth joins a long line of 150-year fire brigade founding anniversaries that began in many Bavarian Forest communities in the 1870s.
Hohenwarth is located in the Cham district (Upper Palatinate, Bavaria), nestled between the Bavarian Forest, Hoher Bogen, and Künisches Gebirge. Its approximately 2,600 inhabitants make it a typical Bavarian Forest community where the fire brigade system is deeply rooted in village life. At the 2026 ceremonial act, friendly brigades from all over the district – Cham, Bad Kötzting, Furth im Wald, Lam, Roding – are expected to attend with festival delegations.
The choreography of a 150-year fire brigade anniversary in Bavaria follows a proven pattern:
The organizer is the FF Hohenwarth; the Cham District Fire Brigade Association (KFV) oversees the major events for the district's fire brigades and lists the anniversary celebrations in its public calendar. The festival is therefore part of the region's fire brigade system, not just a local club event.
What initially sounds like a purely club celebration is a major social event in the Bavarian Forest: a 150-year-old fire brigade brings together families, friendly brigades, politicians, the church, and clubs. The parade on Sunday is regularly the largest of the year in the respective community, the festival tent usually accommodates several hundred guests, and the catering in the tent by fire brigade comrades and their families is among the most dedicated volunteer efforts in the club scene of eastern Bavaria.
The Cham District Fire Brigade Association confirms the festival date of July 17-19, 2026, in its official online calendar (kfv-cham.de). Erlebe.bayern also lists the event. The organizer is the FF Hohenwarth together with the market municipality and neighboring brigades.
The focus is on the vehicle consecration of the new operational vehicle on festival Sunday by the priest – traditionally the emotional climax of a fire brigade anniversary and a clear sign of the connection between the parish, the brigade, and the community. Program details will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival on the FF Hohenwarth channels and in the KFV calendar.
The exact schedule will be published on kfv-cham.de and via the Facebook page of FF Hohenwarth.
