In mid-August, Schmidgaden celebrates its "Schmigoner Kirwa" – the traditional Upper Palatinate Kirchweih (church consecration festival), organized by the Schmidgaden Volunteer Fire Brigade. For several days, the BRK-Haus (Red Cross building) transforms into a festival ground with marksmen, brass band music, beer, and exuberant party atmosphere. A real Upper Palatinate Kirwa with all the trimmings – customs, conviviality, and the community celebrating together in the district of Schwandorf.

The Schmidgaden Volunteer Fire Brigade is organizing the Schmigoner Kirwa 2026 from August 15 to 17 at the BRK-Haus Schmidgaden. The Kirwa includes marksmen for the opening, hearty brass band music, beer service, and an exuberant party atmosphere – a true Upper Palatinate Kirchweih over three days.

Schmidgaden maintains a rich Kirwa culture: In addition to the main Kirwa, other Kirchweihen take place in the districts throughout the year, such as the village Kirwa in Trisching in September.

Getting There

Schmidgaden is located in the district of Schwandorf, accessible via regional roads from Schwandorf or the A93 motorway. The celebration takes place at the BRK-Haus Schmidgaden.
