The family-friendly beer cellar festival in Germany's largest cherry-growing region
Pretzfeld is located on the southwestern edge of the Franconian Switzerland Nature Park, in the middle of Germany's largest contiguous cherry-growing region. Cherries are an important source of income here – reason enough to dedicate a festival to them since 1971. The Franconian Cherry Festival is traditionally celebrated about a week before the Forchheim Annafest over a long weekend.
The venue is the Pretzfeld cellar in the Kellerwald, a traditional Franconian beer cellar with a panoramic view. The family-friendly atmosphere under shady trees is what makes the festival so special. The festival host is Mike Schmitt from the Nikl brewery, who operates the cellar throughout the entire season.
The festival opens on Friday with the Pretzfeld Music Association and the beer tapping by the mayor, in the presence of the Cherry Queen. The grand parade on Sunday leads from the school through the village up to the Kellerwald and is the most popular program item.
Early morning pint with brass music, dance evenings with live bands, and a child-friendly program characterize the other festival days. Over the decades, the Cherry Festival has developed into one of the best-known beer cellar festivals in the Franconian Switzerland.
The 56th edition of the Franconian Cherry Festival extends from Friday, July 17, to Wednesday, July 22, 2026, over six days at the Pretzfeld cellar. It opens on Friday with the Pretzfeld Music Association and the beer tapping by the mayor in the presence of the Cherry Queen.
The grand parade on Sunday from the school through the village up to the Kellerwald is the highlight. On the following days, early morning pint sessions with brass music and dance evenings with live bands provide entertainment.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the municipality of Pretzfeld before the festival.
