One of Munich's Oldest Blues Festivals
The Bluesfest am Rotkreuzplatz in Munich-Neuhausen was founded in 1989 and has since been considered a Munich blues institution. On Rotkreuzplatz in the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg district (postal code 80634), four blues bands from the Munich scene or with local connections traditionally perform on a summer Sunday. For decades, the festival has been free, making it a flagship for accessible culture in the state capital.
Comeback After a Three-Year Break
Following the Corona pandemic and several organizational difficulties, the festival was dormant for several years. With the support of District Committee 9 (Neuhausen-Nymphenburg), the Munich Cultural Department, and the Augustiner brewery, the Bluesfest returns to Rotkreuzplatz in 2026 under the leadership of organizer Bang Bang! Concerts. This revives one of Munich's most important district cultural events.
Munich Blues Scene on Stage
The festival is traditionally a reflection of the vibrant Munich blues scene. In 2026, the stage will feature bands including Black Patti (Blues & Roots), Sheep Lost (Acoustic Blues, Southern Rock, Bluegrass), T.G. Copperfield (Blues Rock and Americana), and San2 & His Soul Patrol (Soul, Rhythm and Blues). The eight hours of concert time fill the Sunday afternoon and evening with a wide range of classic blues, roots, Americana, and soul.
District Festival with Brewery Support
Beyond the stage, the Bluesfest is a classic district festival with Augustiner beer on tap, simple catering, and a relaxed, intergenerational audience. Its central location at the Rotkreuzplatz subway station (U1/U7) makes the festival easily accessible from all parts of Munich.
