Traditional village fair in the Pinsweiler district of Namborn
Pinsweiler is a small district of the municipality of Namborn, located in the northern St. Wendel district between the Schaumberg and Bostalsee. With only a few hundred inhabitants, Pinsweiler is one of those small Saarland villages where old traditional celebrations are still visibly alive. One of these celebrations is the annual Kirmes – a combined form of church consecration festival, autumn festival, and village community festival, which makes the town center a meeting point for the entire region every autumn.
In Saarland and the adjacent Palatinate, what is called Kirchweih (Bavaria), Kerwe (Palatinate), or Kirmes (Rhineland) elsewhere is simply called "Kirmes" or regionally "Kerb". Originally, it was the patron saint's day of the local church – the "Kirchweih-Tag" (church consecration day) – which was traditionally a specific Sunday in the church year. Today, the Kirmes is a locally bound folk festival that brings together clubs, the church, and the village community. In Pinsweiler, the date falls on the third Sunday in October (around October 16th) – a classic autumn Kirmes date in the St. Wendel region.
As with most Saarland village fairs, the program follows a proven pattern:
The local clubs – fire brigade, sports club, possibly carnival club, music club, women's and youth groups – share the catering stands and organize the program. Rides are represented in Pinsweiler on a smaller scale than at the large fairs in St. Wendel or Saarbrücken; the focus is on conviviality and local connection.
Namborn comprises seven districts (Namborn, Furschweiler, Hofeld, Mauschbach, Heisterberg, Pinsweiler, and Roschberg) with a total of around 4,500 inhabitants and is located in the St. Wendel district. Each district maintains its own Kirmes tradition; together they form a compact festival calendar from spring to autumn.
Pinsweiler is located on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and in close proximity to the premium hiking trail network Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. Visitors to the Kirmes can easily combine their stay with an autumn hike – the colors of the Saar-Hunsrück forest in October are an experience in themselves.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published in late summer/early autumn via the Namborn municipality's event calendar (namborn.de) and in the local press. As with most Saarland village fairs, the program follows a fixed four-day pattern with an opening on Friday, a dance evening on Saturday, a festival Sunday, and Kirmes Monday.
