Franconian Kirchweih Tradition
The Kirchweih, known as "Kärwa" in Franconia, is one of the region's oldest and most important folk festivals. Originally a festival to consecrate the local church, it has evolved over the centuries into a convivial district festival. The Kirchweih in Zerzabelshof joins the ranks of the numerous district Kirchweihs that Nuremberg celebrates throughout the year in the Bavarian metropolitan region.
Volksfest in Eastern Nuremberg
Zerzabelshof, "Zabo" for short, is a district in eastern Nuremberg with a strong club life and distinct local character. The Kärwa is traditionally supported by the Vorstadtverein Zabo e.V. and offers fairground attractions with beer stands, carousels and rides, snack stalls with Franconian specialties, as well as live music and entertainment for the whole family.
District Festival with Tradition
Unlike large commercial folk festivals, the Zabo-Kärwa thrives on its neighborly character and the commitment of local clubs. It is a meeting point for residents and guests from all over Nuremberg and represents the vibrant preservation of Franconian customs in the state of Bavaria.
Nuremberg and Franconia
Nuremberg, an independent city in Middle Franconia, is known for its rich festival culture – from the Christkindlesmarkt to the district Kirchweihs celebrated throughout the year. The Kirchweih Zerzabelshof is an authentic example of the lived Franconian Kärwa tradition.
