Advent Market at the Sports Field

The Weihnachtsmarkt Unterwellenborn is a traditional Advent market in the Saale-Orla-Kreis district. The venue is the Sportplatz Könitz, a district of the municipality of Unterwellenborn. The market is not large but is lovingly organized by the municipality of Unterwellenborn in cooperation with local clubs and schools.

Program — Mulled Wine, Pastries, Children

The program follows the typical pattern of a village Advent market: mulled wine stands run by local clubs, Christmas pastries and gingerbread, regional specialties (bratwurst, crêpes, candied almonds), craft stalls, and a children's program with a carousel, craft activities, and a visit from St. Nicholas in the afternoon. Schools and kindergartens provide the stage program — Christmas carols, performances, and readings characterize the afternoon.

Unterwellenborn — Industrial Town in Saale-Orla-Kreis

The municipality of Unterwellenborn is located in the Saale-Orla-Kreis district in the south of the state of Thuringia, on the Saalfeld–Probstzella railway line. For centuries, it has been a center for iron processing — the Maxhütten plant shapes the region — and belongs to the cultural landscape of the upper Saale valley. The Christmas market is one of the few secular Advent events in the town, a cross-generational meeting point in December.
