Tuchenbacher Kärwa — Spring Kerwa around Ascension Day
Tuchenbach is located in the district of Fürth, about 10 km west of the central town of Fürth, at the transition from the Knoblauchsland to the Aischtal valley. The municipality is small, but its Kärwa is regionally known: it is one of the first major Kirchweih dates in the Franconian spring and attracts guests from the entire district of Fürth and from Nuremberg-Erlangen every year.
The Kärwaburschen — The Driving Force of the Festival
The association of the Kärwaburschen Tuchenbach (KWB) is behind the event. Their motto "Hopfen und Malz, Gott erhalt's" stands for a consciously maintained tradition. Throughout the year, the young men prepare the festival — from finding the tree to choreographing the Kärwapaare to organizing catering and music.
Program of a Franconian Kerwa
The schedule follows Middle Franconian tradition, with Ascension Day (Thursday) as the kick-off and the main Kerwa Sunday as the highlight:
- Thursday (Ascension Day) — Raising of the Kärwabaum by the Kärwaburschen, Father's Day Frühschoppen (morning pint), dance kick-off in the festival tent
- Friday — Festival activities, music, social gathering
- Saturday — Festival activities, dance evening with live band
- Sunday — Festival service, parade of associations, dance of the Kärwapaare (“Betznraustanzen”), grand family afternoon
What Makes the Tuchenbacher Kärwa Special
Anyone who visits several Kirchweihen in the district of Fürth will recognize Tuchenbach by three things: a particularly active Kärwaburschen association, a traditionally beautifully decorated Kärwabaum, and the typical Middle Franconian Betznraustanzen — the dance of the Kärwapaare, where a bouquet is danced for and the main couple leads the next generation of Kärwaburschen.
