About Kärwa Tuchenbach

The Tuchenbacher Kärwa is one of the traditional Franconian Kirchweihen (church consecration festivals) in the district of Fürth and is among the first major Kerwa dates of the Middle Franconian spring. For four days around Ascension Day, the Kärwaburschen Tuchenbach celebrate the village Kirchweih under their motto "Hopfen und Malz, Gott erhalt's" (Hops and Malt, God preserve it): raising the Kärwabaum (maypole), festival tent, Betznraustanzen (a traditional dance), dance of the Kärwapaare (couples) and the typical fairground attractions are part of the program. Organized by one of the most active youth associations in the district of Fürth.

Tuchenbacher Kärwa — Spring Kerwa around Ascension Day

Tuchenbach is located in the district of Fürth, about 10 km west of the central town of Fürth, at the transition from the Knoblauchsland to the Aischtal valley. The municipality is small, but its Kärwa is regionally known: it is one of the first major Kirchweih dates in the Franconian spring and attracts guests from the entire district of Fürth and from Nuremberg-Erlangen every year.

The Kärwaburschen — The Driving Force of the Festival

The association of the Kärwaburschen Tuchenbach (KWB) is behind the event. Their motto "Hopfen und Malz, Gott erhalt's" stands for a consciously maintained tradition. Throughout the year, the young men prepare the festival — from finding the tree to choreographing the Kärwapaare to organizing catering and music.

Program of a Franconian Kerwa

The schedule follows Middle Franconian tradition, with Ascension Day (Thursday) as the kick-off and the main Kerwa Sunday as the highlight:

  • Thursday (Ascension Day) — Raising of the Kärwabaum by the Kärwaburschen, Father's Day Frühschoppen (morning pint), dance kick-off in the festival tent
  • Friday — Festival activities, music, social gathering
  • Saturday — Festival activities, dance evening with live band
  • Sunday — Festival service, parade of associations, dance of the Kärwapaare (“Betznraustanzen”), grand family afternoon

What Makes the Tuchenbacher Kärwa Special

Anyone who visits several Kirchweihen in the district of Fürth will recognize Tuchenbach by three things: a particularly active Kärwaburschen association, a traditionally beautifully decorated Kärwabaum, and the typical Middle Franconian Betznraustanzen — the dance of the Kärwapaare, where a bouquet is danced for and the main couple leads the next generation of Kärwaburschen.

Kärwa Tuchenbach — edition 2026

The Tuchenbacher Kärwa 2026 runs from Thursday, May 14 (Ascension Day) to Sunday, May 17, 2026. Raising of the Kärwabaum, festival tent operations, dance evenings, and on the main Kerwa Sunday, the festival service, parade, and the traditional Betznraustanzen of the Kärwapaare. Organizer: Kärwaburschen Tuchenbach.

The 2026 dates are confirmed on the large Kerwa calendar 2026 for the city and district of Fürth: May 14 to 17. The Tuchenbacher Kärwa traditionally kicks off a whole series of Kirchweihen in the Middle Franconian spring.

Detailed hourly program — performance times of the bands, start of the parade, time of the tree raising — will be announced in the weeks before the Kärwa on kwb-tuchenbach.de.
