Traditional Chiemgau Kirta on the third Sunday in October
The Kirchweih, known as 'Kirta' in the Chiemgau and Old Bavaria, is one of the most important traditional autumn festivals. In Staudach-Egerndach, a municipality in the Traunstein district in the state of Bavaria, located in the picturesque Achental valley at the foot of the Chiemgau Alps, the Kirta is a firm part of the annual customs.
As in many places in the Chiemgau region, the Kirchweih in Staudach-Egerndach is celebrated on the third Sunday in October. The autumnal date traditionally marks the end of the farming year and the beginning of the quieter, convivial winter months. In many parts of the region, the Kirta is associated with a market and traditional delicacies.
A special feature of Staudach-Egerndach is the afternoon closure of the town hall and the municipal works department on Kirchweih Monday, which also affects the Marquartstein administrative district. This custom demonstrates how naturally the Kirta is integrated into the life of the community: On Kirchweih Monday, the community takes center stage.
The festive church service, convivial gatherings in the inns, and the celebrations organized by the Staudach clubs characterize the Kirta and represent a living Bavarian way of life. The Kirchweih Staudach-Egerndach is thus a unifying festival that brings the village community in the Achental together and keeps Chiemgau customs alive.
The 2026 Kirta will be celebrated in Staudach-Egerndach on the weekend of the third Sunday in October.
