Traditional park Kirchweih festival in the Wernpark by the sports hall
The Kirchweih Niederwerrn has been organized by VfL 1924 Niederwerrn since 1959 and is a fixed date in the Kerwa calendar of the Schweinfurt district. For decades, the festival traditionally took place in August as a four-day marquee event with an amusement park on the festival grounds, which were redesigned in 2007. Since 2019, the format has changed: the Kerwa is now celebrated as a two-day open-air park festival in July.
With the move to the Wernpark by the sports hall, the Kirchweih has taken on a more relaxed, family-friendly character. Instead of a large marquee, beer benches under the open sky, gazebos, and the park's trees define the scene. The VfL Niederwerrn sports comrades personally take care of the catering: tapped beer from Lower Franconia, Franconian bratwurst from the charcoal grill, homemade salads, and cakes in the afternoon.
The Kirchweih traditionally takes place on the second weekend in July – a deliberately chosen time that falls after the end of the school year and before the main summer holidays. The festival starts on Saturday evening with the tapping of the first beer keg and live music, followed on Sunday by a relaxed family day with a morning pint, lunch, and afternoon program.
The municipality of Niederwerrn is located in the Schweinfurt district in the Franconian state of Bavaria, directly on the Wern river and just a few kilometers west of the industrial city of Schweinfurt. With around 7,000 inhabitants, Niederwerrn is a vibrant residential community with active club life. The VfL 1924, with its approximately nine departments – from football to line dancing – forms the social backbone of the town, and the Kerwa is its most important summer event.
Anyone visiting the Kirchweih Niederwerrn immerses themselves in an authentic Lower Franconian tradition. The Kerwa here is not a tourist magnet, but real village life: club members meet, old acquaintances see each other again, newcomers are welcomed. It is precisely this authenticity that makes the festival so appealing.
The second weekend of July is dedicated to the Kerwa in Niederwerrn. On Saturday, July 11th, 2026, the park Kirchweih festival starts in the late afternoon in the Wernpark by the sports hall, followed by the tapping of the first beer keg and live music into the evening.
On Sunday, July 12th, 2026, the Kerwa opens for a morning pint with bratwurst, Schäuferla (pork shoulder), and cold beer. In the afternoon, coffee and homemade cakes are served, while a small children's program entertains families.
VfL 1924 Niederwerrn traditionally caters the Kerwa on a voluntary basis. Program details (band names, exact times) will be announced in spring 2026 on the club's website and the Facebook event page.
Details on the music program will follow shortly before the festival.
