A Franconian Kirchweih with Millennia-Old Roots
Neusitz is located in the Ansbach district, in close proximity to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The Holy Cross Church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Neusitz has roots dating back around 1,000 years and shapes the village's appearance. Its Kirchweih is celebrated according to a fixed rule: "four weeks after Easter" — a tradition maintained in many small Franconian parishes.
What Makes the Kirchweih Special
- Festival Service at 10 AM: The festival service with Pastor Markus Dörrer in the Holy Cross Church marks the beginning.
- Activities at the Labyrinth: In front of the church, there is a painted labyrinth that is used for children's activities on the Kirchweih day.
- Tower Climb: The church tower is open to visitors on Kirchweih day — a classic program item of Franconian Kirchweihen.
- Bouncy Castle for Children: A bouncy castle is set up in front of the church, and the area around the church becomes a family zone.
- Live Folk Music with Martin Rohn: Folk musician Martin Rohn performs as part of the Kirchweih.
- Catering by Gasthof Neusitz: Classic Kirchweih specialties such as Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Franconian sausages, and dumplings — combined with the inn's Italian specialties.
State and Cultural Context
Bavaria, administrative region Middle Franconia, Ansbach district. The "Four-Weeks-After-Easter" tradition is a specific Franconian variant of the Kirchweih, differing from the common October Kerwa (Kirchweih) schedule. In Neusitz, it is consistently maintained — and the Holy Cross Church, with its ancient structure, provides a worthy setting.
