Kerwa in the Franconian Wine Country

Martinsheim is a small community in the district of Kitzingen, nestled in the Franconian Wine Country in Lower Franconia. As in many Franconian wine villages, the Kirchweih – colloquially known as "Kerwa" – is a social highlight of the year. The Kirchweih Martinsheim is organized by the local civic association, thus preserving the village community life.

Franconian Kirchweih Tradition

The Kirchweih dates back to the consecration of the local church and is traditionally celebrated on the Sunday after Micheli (St. Michael's Day at the end of September). The venue is Martinsheim's fire station, which becomes the social center for the festival. Typical for the Franconian Kerwa are beer service, Franconian specialties, wine from local vintners, and cozy get-togethers.

As a festival organized on a voluntary basis by the civic association, it is an identity-defining event in the wine village's annual calendar and an authentic experience in the district of Kitzingen.
