Jakobi-Kirchweih in the Erlangen Countryside
The Kirchweih Marloffstein is part of the dense chain of Kirchweih festivals in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district. Marloffstein is a small community with just under 1,300 inhabitants north of Erlangen, whose festival calendar is determined by the patron saint St. James. Traditionally, the Kirchweih is celebrated on the Sunday after St. James's Day (July 25th) – in 2026, this falls on the weekend of August 1st to 3rd.
Program from Parish and Clubs
Traditionally, the event begins with a festive church service and Kirchweih concerts in the parish church of St. James. Afterwards, the local clubs take over the catering – with a classic Kärwa (fair) program: Drei-im-Weggla (three Nuremberg sausages in a bun), Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Bratwürste (sausages), Krapfen (doughnuts), regional beers, and a dance evening. The Marloffstein volunteer fire department organizes its own barbecue party at the fire station during the Kirchweih, which has become a firm fixture of the festival weekend under the motto "We come when you need us. You come when we celebrate.".
Marloffstein and Erlangen
Marloffstein is geographically very close to the greater Erlangen area and benefits from a dual audience: locals for whom their Kärwa is central, and residents of Erlangen who come to the neighboring village for a Kärwa Sunday. The restaurant Alter Brunnen from Marloffstein also caters the Striezi-Keller at the Erlangen Bergkirchweih, which is known far beyond the region – an indication of the close connection between the village Kärwa and its larger Erlangen counterpart.
