Family Day with Children's King Coronation at Bocksheide — Theme: Fire Brigade
The Kinderschützenfest (Children's Marksmen's Festival) of the Schützenverein Herringen-Nordherringen 1863 e.V. is a lovingly staged family day that passes on marksmen's tradition in a child-friendly manner. Since 1983, a Children's King and Queen have been proclaimed every year — the focus is not on competition, but on the experience: march to Bocksheide, eagle shooting, coronation, and an afternoon-filling program in the Hammer district of Herringen.
The day begins with assembly at the Herringer Marktplatz (Herringen Market Square) at 1:30 PM. From there, the participating children, along with the reigning Children's King and Queen, and the marksmen, march towards Bocksheide — the traditional home ground of the club. Around 3 PM, the procession reaches the Schützenwiese, where the children's eagle christening and eagle shooting take place. The new Children's King and Queen will be proclaimed under this year's theme “Fire Brigade” — a motto that captures the enthusiasm of many children for the professional fire service.
The Bocksheide is a traditional club grounds in the north of Hamm — marksmen's meadow, club house, and festival grounds all in one. The marksmen's club, founded in 1863 by citizens of the former parish community of Herringen, maintains a dense program of marksmen's festivals, family celebrations, and traditional events here.
Until the coronation of the new royal couple, Marie Steckenreuter and Ben Louis Wollinsky reign as Children's King and Queen 2025/26. They will lead the festival procession and hand over the scepter to their successors on the day of the event.
The Kinderschützenfest is open to children from Herringen and Nordherringen — and an important social meeting point in the district. Parents, grandparents, and club members accompany the procession and then celebrate at the Schützenwiese with music, refreshments, and games. A low-threshold traditional event that keeps club life in North Rhine-Westphalia vibrant.
The 2026 Kinderschützenfest continues the tradition maintained since 1983. This year's theme is 'Fire Brigade' — a tribute to the calling of many children. Meeting point, festival procession, eagle shooting, coronation, and family celebration — an afternoon full of tradition.
