Biannual baby and children's clothing market in the Bürgerhaus with charitable proceeds
The Winterhausen Children's Clothing Market has been a firm fixture in the event calendar of the market town of Winterhausen for years – a small community of around 1,500 inhabitants in the district of Würzburg (Lower Franconia, Bavaria) on the right bank of the Main river, opposite the Volkach loop. Twice a year – in spring and autumn – the Bürgerhaus transforms into a large second-hand marketplace for parents, grandparents, and anyone who needs or wants to get rid of baby and children's items.
The market is privately organized: Sellers receive sales numbers during a pre-registration phase lasting several weeks. They drop off their goods the day before the market (drop-off 4:30 PM–6:00 PM), and the clothing market team sorts and manages the sales. Sellers pick up unsold items on the market day itself (pick-up 7:30 PM–8:30 PM). A portion of the sales proceeds goes to the clothing market team, which uses it to finance charitable projects and purchases for the citizens of Winterhausen (kindergarten, school, community facilities).
The focus is on items for children:
A special tradition: Pregnant women are allowed to enter the market from 12:30 PM – half an hour before the regular opening. This allows expectant mothers to choose in peace and without crowds.
In addition to the market activities, coffee, cake, and refreshments are available in the foyer – to take away or enjoy on-site. This makes the market a neighborhood meeting point for young parents from Winterhausen, the Maindreieck region, and the wider Würzburg area.
The Winterhausen market is part of a dense network of second-hand clothing markets in Lower Franconia. Platforms like mamamia-online.de or kinderflohmarkt.com list numerous clothing markets in Würzburg, Kitzingen, Volkach, and the surrounding area. Winterhausen is among the best-organized and most popular markets in the region.
In 2026, the volunteer clothing market team will again organize two markets – spring (February 28, 2026) and autumn (September 26, 2026). The autumn market will focus particularly on transitional and winter clothing for children, ski equipment, and sports items for the upcoming season. Parents from the entire Maindreieck region and the Würzburg area appreciate the well-sorted, well-managed market.
