Regensburg's big family festival in the Stadtpark – one day, 50 associations, free entry
The Kinderbürgerfest Regensburg is one of the largest family events in Eastern Bavaria – with around 30,000 visitors, it's a day when the Stadtpark is firmly in the hands of families from the Regensburg area. Unlike the city's classic folk festivals (Volksfeste), the focus here is not on the beer tent, but on the hands-on program for children aged 0 to 16.
Around 50 exhibitors present their offerings: sports clubs for trial training, youth fire brigades with the chance to ride in a fire engine, social welfare organizations with craft and creative activities, local companies with workshops, cultural associations with performances, the Johanniter with first-aid stations for children, beekeepers, nature conservation associations, dance schools, and many more. Every stand emphasizes participation, not consumption.
Throughout the day, show performances will take place on the main stage: dance groups from Regensburg schools, acrobatics by sports acrobats, music bands from youth orchestras, short plays. On the meadow, there are several bouncy castles, craft stations, and play streets. In the wooded areas of the Stadtpark, there are stations for climbing and activities. At the food stalls, associations sell at fair prices: fries, sausages, crêpes, ice cream, and vegetarian options.
The Regensburg Stadtpark is one of the city's central green spaces – a spacious English garden with old trees, meadows, playgrounds, and water features, nestled between the old town and the university. It's ideal for the Kinderbürgerfest: plenty of shade under the old trees, large meadows for the bouncy castles, stage locations with good visibility. Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the capital of the Upper Palatinate, with about 160,000 inhabitants, is one of Bavaria's most dynamic cities – the Kinderbürgerfest reflects this young, family-oriented side of the city.
The 2026 edition of the Kinderbürgerfest Regensburg will take place on Sunday, August 2, in the Stadtpark. Organized by Stadtmarketing Regensburg and the Johanniter, with the support of around 50 associations, organizations, and companies from the city and the district.
The program includes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. bouncy castles, craft and creative stations, a show stage with dance groups and music bands, introductory sports activities, creative workshops, and the opportunity to ride in fire engines. Food stalls run by associations at fair prices.
By car via the A3 or A93 (Regensburg exit), then public transport or Park & Ride recommended (parking in the city center is scarce). By train to Regensburg Hbf, from there a 15-minute walk or a short city bus ride to the Stadtpark. Arriving by bicycle is ideal.
Free admission, as are almost all hands-on activities offered by the associations. Food and drinks at the association stalls at fair prices. Cash recommended.
Program runs continuously from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the morning (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), the bouncy castles and craft stations are least crowded – ideal for the little ones. Show program from late morning into the afternoon. Weather-appropriate clothing recommended (the festival takes place in almost all weather conditions).
