The Children's Day Festival in Lauchhammer-West Castle Park — with a Children's Flea Market
Every year on June 1 — International Children's Day, which is still an important family celebration in the former GDR — Lauchhammer-West Castle Park is transformed into an open family area. The City of Lauchhammer is hosting its Children's and Family Festival for the repeated time in 2026 in the classicist park between the former castle and the castle pond complex. Admission is free.
The stage program begins in the afternoon and continues into the early evening. Fixed points include regional school and dance groups — including the dance ensemble "Jessy tanzt" and the percussion class "Klasse: Musik für Brandenburg". The children's theater program is traditionally provided by "Meister Blauknopf und der Wunderkoffer" — a puppet show for the youngest. The regional school band "Schulverweis" has also been a regular guest for several years.
One of the most popular elements of the festival is the Children's Flea Market "Children for Children": Children between 6 and 14 years old — with a supervisor — sell their own outgrown toys and children's clothing up to size 176. Each child brings their own table and displays their items themselves. Registration is via an online form or QR code in advance; there is no stand fee.
In addition to the stage and flea market, you can expect classic family festival attractions: bouncy castles, a carousel for toddlers, a play street with creative stations, face painting, and craft and participation activities from local clubs. A small park railway runs through the grounds. For food, there are waffles, ice cream, coffee and cake, bratwurst and burgers, goulash, and fries. The festival grounds offer plenty of shade under the old park trees.
Lauchhammer, with around 14,000 inhabitants, is an industrial city in southern Brandenburg, in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, on the border with Saxony. The originally baroque castle complex of Lauchhammer-West once belonged to the iron cast manufactory that shaped the city in the 18th century. Today, the castle park is a public garden monument with a pond, pavilions, and old trees — an ideal location for a family festival.
On June 1, 2026, Lauchhammer Castle Park opens its gates for the annual Children's and Family Festival. The festival starts in the afternoon and ends in the early evening.
The organizer is the City of Lauchhammer. Several clubs, schools, and regional cultural organizations jointly contribute to the program.
