Largest Volksfest in Lower Franconia – 17 days on the Talavera
The Kiliani-Volksfest is the largest Volksfest in Lower Franconia and one of the defining festivals of the Lower Franconian district capital Würzburg. For 17 days, the Talavera festival grounds on the banks of the Main are transformed into a festival meadow with a large beer tent, around 80 showmen, and amusement rides.
The centerpiece is the large Kiliani festival tent of the Hahn family of hosts. Specially brewed for Kiliani by Würzburger Hofbräu, the amber-colored Kiliani festival beer is served; a liter (Maß) costs €13.20 in 2026. During the day, regional bands play traditional folk music matinees, while cover bands, Schlager, and party bands take over in the evenings.
In 2026, the festival tent program expands: more regional brass bands will perform live, and new ensembles will celebrate their premiere – including the young Würzburg group AGB: Atemberaubend Gefühlvoll Böhmisch. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, matches will be broadcast live in the festival tent – creating a special atmosphere on World Cup match days.
Parallel to the festival tent, the traditional Kiliani fair takes place on the Würzburg market square as a sales fair. Another highlight is the 38th edition of Kiliani Boxing in the festival tent – a boxing event with a long tradition. The Volksfest kicks off with the Kiliani parade of the hosts and showmen, followed by the ceremonial keg tapping by the mayor.
Würzburg is the largest city in Lower Franconia (Bavaria) and, with its Residence, Marienberg Fortress, and Old Main Bridge, is a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble. The Kiliani-Volksfest traces its origins back to the city patron St. Kilian, whose feast day on July 8th marks the temporal scope of the Volksfest.
From July 3rd to 19th, 2026, the Talavera festival grounds in Würzburg will transform into the largest Volksfest in Lower Franconia. The Hahn family of hosts will serve the specially brewed Kiliani festival beer from Würzburger Hofbräu in the festival tent at a price of €13.20 per liter, while around 80 showmen and amusement rides will provide the atmosphere on the festival grounds.
During the day, brass music matinees dominate the festival tent, followed by Schlager and party bands in the evenings. In 2026, the musical offerings will be expanded with new ensembles like AGB: Atemberaubend Gefühlvoll Böhmisch; additionally, matches from the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be broadcast live. The traditional Kiliani fair on the market square complements the Volksfest.
