The Kiel Christmas Village is the largest and most atmospheric Christmas market in the state capital. For four weeks, the city center around Rathausplatz and Holstenplatz transforms into a Nordic landscape of lights with gnome stories, regional handicrafts, and specialties from bratwurst to Baumstriezel. From the end of November to December 23rd, 2026, the Christmas Village invites you to stroll and enjoy in a pre-Christmas atmosphere.

The Kiel Christmas Village 2026 is expected to run from November 20th to December 23rd at Rathausplatz, Holstenplatz, and Asmus-Bremer-Platz. Four weeks of Nordic Christmas spirit with the gnome Ki(e)lian, three daily gnome flights, handicrafts, live music, and a variety from Bratwurst to Baumstriezel. Exact dates will be confirmed in autumn 2026.

Pre-Christmas Atmosphere

As in previous years, the 2026 Christmas Village will extend over several locations in Kiel's city center. The main market is Rathausplatz with a large Christmas tree, light canopy, and main stage, complemented by the historic Holstenplatz and the winter market at Bootshafen.

Kiel Central Station is a 5-minute walk from Rathausplatz. Train connections from Hamburg in 1 hour. By car via the A215 — use parking garages in the city center.

Opening Hours

Daily 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Fridays and Saturdays extended until 10:00 PM. Closed on Totensonntag (Sunday of the Dead).
